Who are the top 5 goalies in the NHL?

I think it will be interesting to see how different everyone's lists are.

Update:

How interesting. 8 answers thus far and 8 different lists...and the only one who has won a Vezina on any of the lists is Lundqvist.

Nobody has Luongo...but Crawford, Price, Fleury, Harding and Smith are on some people's lists. Does this make Holland, Yzerman and company idiots for likely having him as the starter in the Olympics? No Vezina for him either.

This question is in conjunction with an earlier question....on how much parity there is at the goalie position and there are no clear cut bests like years past when we had Hasek, Roy, Brodeur and Belfour and they would be on everyones list....or Dryden, Parent....you get the picture.

It seems nobody knows anymore who the top guys are and it is debatable at best...the days of clear cut are over....for now anyway.

I kind of have Quick as the top of my list but Scrivens and on a small sample, Jones have excelled and even before getting hurt, Quick was mediocre.

Crawford...but a lot of his success is team related....same mig

Update 2:

Kiggster...good answer duffus...and what Russian goalie do you suggest? Varlamov? Bryzgalov? Nabokov? A digressed Bobrovsky?

Update 3:

Kay...you say maybe Lou is #1 for Canada but you have Harding above him on your list....and Harding won't even make Team Canada...which kind of speaks to my point...there is parity in the goaltending position nowadays

Are we basing this on pure performance or pure skill? Or does money come into play (given the cap restraints Lundqvist is suddenly not a very good performance vs. value goalie). Or are we to consider the system each plays in....for example are Nashville goalies products of the system or are they as good as their numbers? No Preds goalie to date has had much success outside of Nashville. But if I had to go with right now then here they are.

    Harding

    Price

    Fleury

Bishop (might be the most impressive of this group given the "defense" in front of him)

    Rask

Those are the 5 guys producing both wins and big numbers but no way in hell I take Harding and his health issues, Fleury and his meltdowns.

@Bob.....taking Loungo isn't really a bad thing for the Olympics. He has international experience and is playing fairly well, given the choices he probably represents as good a chance to be the #1 for Canada as anybody at this time. My list represents guys who are producing at the moment, certainly not guys I think are "the best". But I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment that there is no such thing as dominant goalies like in the past. Often the difference today is system oriented and it is harder all the time to imagine a goalie stealing a long playoff run without big help in front of him. Id Harding fortunate to have the Minny defensive system in front of him? Pretty obvious answer. Rinne looks all world most nights...so has every other goalie who played the Barry Trotz system. Quick is looking more mortal with every game he has missed, or the water in LA is mighty good for goaltenders! Yes the days of Hasek, Roy, Brodeur etc. who could dominate and win in spite of what is (or isn't) happening in front of them are pretty much not happening today.

Okay my ranking are based on past history and my percieved future potential- not who is playing the best right now as that list would like include at least 3 backups.

    1) Rask- he has proven he is elite over several years, consistent performer. I wonder if he will hold up- seems to get hurt yearly.

2)Rinne- although injured he is one of the best

    3) Price - may be a bit biased here but I think he has finally found the key in Jimmy Waites brother.

4)Crawford - I think he is way better than he gets credit for

    5) Quick- (although I think they style he plays will lead to hips that look like Bo jackson's within 5 years.

    lundquist- too old

Harding /Scrivens/ etc I want to see a larger sample size. Not if you play for or have played for Hitchcock I do not consider any of those stats, I could get a SO in his system

Goalies are the players who must produce results. Those results are wins. Sawchuk was the best because he won on teams that may or may not have been the best team but he won. So by looking at this years crop of NHL goalies in no particular order my subjective opinion

    Crawford

    Fleury

    Harding

    Price

    Rask

    1. Brodeur....2 Stanley cups, 0 Vezina trophies 2. Roy...........1 Stanley cup, 2 Vezina trophies 3. Belfour.....1 Stanley cup, 2 Vezina trophies 4. Hasek......0 Stanley cups, 5 Vezina trophies 5. Tom Barrasso...2 Stanley cups, 0 Vezina trophies Those are my picks in order..Keep in mind this is (1990-2000)You can argue that the Vezina winners are the best goalies of those years but to me I think cup wins are more important. Although Barrasso won 2 cups and the others, besides Brodeur, didnt...I couldnt put them before the other 3 guys...he cant compete with Roy, Belfour, and Hasek.
