How spot on is Ron MacLean's analysis of Ovechkin?

He is less than impressed and calls Ovechkin a "speciality act."

Update:

12:20 of the podcast BTW

Update 2:

Stevie....the question was meant to incite you and bring out the homer. I actually do agree with what MacLean says for the most part....even on the Thornton incident. it makes sense.

Agreed - he is a "specialty act".

Under certain circumstances, he is the deadliest sniper in the NHL.

Other times, like tonight, he is a ghost.

Russian players have often been called "enigmas" - maybe Ovi has stepped into

    Semin's shoes.

When he is good, he is very, very good.

I agree mostly, however you have to score goals to win games.

I do however agree with Maclean's analysis that Ovechkin's game has not changed since he entered the league. Still a poor defender, still coasts in games, still leads the league in missed shots etc.

Oates has done a great job at putting Ovechkin in the position (moving him to RW has revitalized his scoring touch) to score like he has this season.

Ovie is a great goal scorer but thats all he's good at, everything else is supbar so basically when hes not scoring he's useless.
