What cat breed should i get?

Hi, I have decided to get either a British Shorthair or a Russian Blue, but don't know which one would suit me and my home the best. What cat is cuddlier and more affectionate, what cat would be able to stay at home by itself for around 6 hours through the day and which is the least maintenance. I would prefer a cat that would most likely be on the less active side. All help wanted :)

    Typically, it depends on the cat itself not necessarily the breed. In the past I have met Russian Blues who were incredibly sweet and I've meet nasty ones as well. The only breed I have encountered that 90% were sweet as can be were Persians.

    And there's even a Russian Blue breeder near you? There's maybe six in the entire country and kittens START at around $800. British Shorthair breeders are far more common but kittens still start around $600. Your mother really wants to spend that kind of money on a kitten? You'd also be waiting till at least Spring for a kitten IF a breeder you find doesn't have all their kittens for the next litter already reserved.

    Why not just go to a shelter and adopt a cat or kitten? It won't be a breed - 97% of cats aren't. But you might be savings its life. Since it'll be alone an adult cat would be a FAR better choice than a rambunctious kitten. Kittens also are a mystery how they'll be as adults while adult cats the personality is right there before you.

    Each cat is an individual, so the breed can not really tell exactly, it depends on the cat itself. They both are adorable. I would say to choose whatever you want, but that is why you asked the question anyway, so I would say a Russian Blue would give an elegant look, and the British Shorthair would have a unique look. Both are great! Either way, it is a new companion to love and to get love back from! <3

    What I would do if I didn't know a lot about cats (and I don't) would be to google each breed and compare behaviors to see which traits won't work for what you're looking for and which match. From when I looked it up I got this: After reading about them, the British shorthair may me more your style, but the final decision is up to you!!

    British shorthair:

    This is a quiet, undemonstrative cat endowed with a certain amount of British reserve. Though initially hesitant, it warms to people once it becomes familiar with them, and it bonds closely with its human companions. It will show loyalty to all the members of the family, rather than just one person. The perfect family pet, it is at its best with children, showing patience and affection, and easy adaptation to changes in the home. You can expect your Shorthair to be good tempered, with a stable personality, and stable patterns of behavior. It has an independent nature and thrives well even when left alone, and is not likely to get involved with high energy activities once it has left kitten-hood. The Shorthair is also known for being particularly quiet, using its voice only when it needs something from you. http://www.petmd.com/cat/breeds/c_ct_british_short...

    Russoan Blue;

    This is a well-behaved cat that is easy to train. Or, rather, it easily trains its people. It enjoys a good game of fetch and will keep the game going longer than you may have time for, and you will make time because the Russian Blue is known for actually appearing hurt when it has been ignored. Elegant, and reserved, this cat is also very playful, and loves to chase after toys or sunbeams.The Russian Blue can spend hours amusing itself and does not mind an awful lot if it is left at home alone for the day, but it will be very happy to see you when you do arrive. This cat makes for an excellent companion, constantly following its owners about, and generally preferring one human above all others in the family. This breed does not like change, preferring for things to be uniform and predictable. One of the Blue Russian's vulnerabilities is its tendency to be startled easily. They also have a natural proclivity to shyness and nervousness around strangers and in strange environments. http://www.petmd.com/cat/breeds/c_ct_russian_blue#...

    Ragdoll cats are not only the most loyal breed but they are super affectionate. I've had many cats in my life, and my ragdoll is by far the most cuddly, loving cat of them all. Not to mention, ragdolls (if trained correctly) are less of a hassle. The only issue I've ever had with mine was her chewing on cords. I've tried a few tactics to help her stop doing it, and so far so good. I am a crazy cat lover and I love all cats, but ragdolls are my favorite thus far.
