How many official movies have been made since the movie camera was invented?
I am aware of IMDB website. However, it does not contain all the movies that have been made since the first movie camera was invented. Just curious to know the amount of movies out there and how many have been lost.

Oh man, that's near impossible to tell. First you need to define "movie," then count them all and nobody has that time or the resources to do it.
I know there are at least 2,140,373 movies. I looked at Saving Mr. Banks on IMDB and that's its ID number. Just came out last week.

The fact that so many early movies are lost means that an accurate number of movies made cannot be determined. "Lost" includes lots of movies about which nothing at all is known, so how do you count them?
