Do people ever die breathing in?

In movies you always see people taking their last breath with one last faithful exhale. But can a person die inhaling (assuming they didn't get shot in the head or were involved in a freak accident as they were breathing in).

Well the lungs expand when inhaling so I think when you're about to die you can't really control your respiratory system and you die while relaxing

Yes they do - I have seen many. It is because they feel a sensation of not getting enough air and are inhaling deeply thinking it would give them more air to survive. When a person dies inhaling most of the air comes back out and you hear the last breath being released. I think this comes from the lungs relaxing after death. Sometimes the heavy inhaling is do to panick and shock.

The chemical exchange shuts down in advance of this. And the last breaths are less than the one before it.
