That's around the going rate for a "Thai-style" studio apartment away from the city center. Check out websites like Mr. Roomfinder and you'll find hundreds of apartments in your price range.

Another way: Stay in a cheap hotel in an area where you want to live, walk around & ask whether they have a room & for how much, if you see some interesting place you might want to live in.
Well, I did this when I came here & was not very successful. Did look in some places close to the center: nothing. But near my hotel in the North of Bangkok I found a room, furnished for 4000. Took me 3 or 4 days. So, it's possible, but you must be a bit lucky if it's your 1st time, I suppose.
Edit: BTW, this site may a help a little, too:

if you google around you can find leads. thats all you need to do.
for that price though you will probably be in a not so convenient location and there will be little security and the apartment may charge a higher rate for power and water rather than just let you have the bill straight from the company.
it's much easier if you up your budget to 9000 or 10000 or live a bit further out in a "fishy" place.
consider the difference in your utilities bills when you consider your budget.
example. in my condo the power bill come from company to my mailbox and works out to 4 baht a unit. my water bill usually ends up around 35-40 baht per month.
apartments often charge there own power rate anywhere between 7-18 baht. all the ones i looked at in bangkok were 15 and 18.

For 650 baht. You can rent a shared room with air there. And kitchen and eating area outside. shower down the hall. Guest house they are called. Bed locker and small table in it. For 3000 baht you can find a room with private bath hot water air and small kitchen a day.

For those Baht, you can live in a nice hotel, but only for one night.
There are thousands of places like you describe because lower middle class BKK Thai want one room with bath and no fixtures. How long do u want to stay for that amount of money?
Look at mid-rise apt bldgs. in the soi 22 area; the working girls who live there are too sleepy in day and too busy at night to trouble you.

Very unlikely to find what you are looking for. You would have to be extremely lucky if you do. You want to pay ghetto prices you are going to get a ghetto place. As simple as that.
Anyone who thinks they will find a friendly place for that amount is an ignoramus. I can tell you that within two months of renting you will have been robbed a least once and may two or three times. You pay a cheap price your not going to get security that is worth anything.

The Blooms Residence

I have a friend of mine who stayed there for 5 weeks. The rooms are small but at least is clean and fairly near to the main road. At the time he stayed there he was paying 4,200 THB, I am not sure now but I don't believe the price has been increases.
You better check, tho

yes you can find clean ( unfurnished ) rooms for that price range along the airport road; but you have to pay for utilities separately.
some also have AC. and yes, 6 months to one year is the usual lease contract; no weekly or monthly rent. clean and safe areas of town ( sometimes even new rooms, never leased before, will include a bed and fan ).
anyone that says you can't find a room for that price range is an ignoramus.

Nothing wrong with living Thai style - if that is what you want - just a warning, even very nice people might be considered by you, not nice neighbors - Thai like to share their music - turn the volume loud so everyone can enjoy… might be one example of a cultural issue for you… if you might find that intrusive.
That is not going to buy much in Bkk...
