What does it mean by " bright, but indirect sunlight"?

I bought a Moon Valley plant because it said it needed low light and I thought I could be the perfect starter plant for me. When I read up on it online it said it needed 'bright, but indirect sunlight'.

What does that mean? I'm trying to find the perfect spot in my room for it, so I put it in the sunny spot where the sun comes through my window since that's the brightest light my room sees. ( its the afternoon sun ) Is that too much light? It's about maybe 4 feet from the window. How would I know if its getting too much/not enough light?

Basically that means put it in a room with a lot of sunlight, but don't let the actual sunlight itself shine on the plant.

A sunny window with shears (drapes that let a lot of light through) would be bright, indirect light.
