Singers, do you feel like you're wasting your time sometimes?

I'm 15,very soon turning 16, and I take classical singing lessons. I practice every day for at least two hours, I take singing lessons, and I plan to start on trying to get roles in local musicals. Yet, I still feel like I'm wasting my time and that I'll probably never get very far. Do you feel like this sometimes? What gets you through it?

Update:

I want to be able to support myself on singing alone, but I feel like that alone is asking for too much.

I felt like this for a while. I kept on pushing, and now I've won state and national awards and honors. What kept me going is my sheer love of singing. Even if you don't get very far, just do it because you love it, not because you have to succeed. Keep singing, it'll do wonderful things for you!

I never feel like I'm wasting time. I'm 16 and being classically trained in singing as well, but it's out of pure enjoyment. I'm not aiming to be the next Maria Callas, Cecilia Bartoli, or even Julie Andrews. I have goals for my voice, sure, but I don't feel that the world of fame and "making it big" musically is for me. If it happens, great! If not, I'm not losing sleep over it; I want to be an elementary school teacher, and maybe play in a few musicals here and there when the time permits. I practice scales and exercises for my voice for 30 minutes every day, sing some karaoke at home, and practice for my recitals that come up. Just take everything in stride, chill, drink tea, and everything will be fine. ^_^

It happens, singing can stop being fun after a while. Try shortening your practice time to one hour so it's not dragging on and on. Set individual goals, (huge ones, and bite size pieces of the bigger goal), but not goals that say "I'm going to be better than so and so". Listen to your favorite songs that inspire you.

Have you tried singing other genres? If not, learn contemporary singing and start gigging. It can be a total blast!

Have you tried songwriting yet? There's a huge difference between singing someone else's song and your own, you'll be able to feel it.

I love singing. In the end, I'll still love it. Before or after fame, doesn't matter. I'll always have a passion for it.

Sometimes, I think fame will ruin singing for me. Ruin the fun. Become all business, traveling. I'd rather not have fame. Good luck to you though. Just remember: it'll always be there.
