How to get into medicine at Cambridge?
I am currently a year 12 student and I hope to go onto study medicine at university. My dream uni would be Cambridge but I am aware that this is extremely competitive. My GCSE results are 10 A stars and I am hoping to get 4 at A-level in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Spanish. I was wondering what UMS marks I realistically need to achieve and what other thinks I definatley need to have to stand a chance. Any tips for interview or anything else would be great!

Cambridge usually want A*AA but it will most likely be higher for something like medicine. The highest grade you can achieve at AS level in Year 12 would be an A in each subject, and then if you get above 90% in A2 units you can end up with A*s. It's not impossible, but bloody hard, not just for Cambridge but for anywhere. Unis are up themselves these days when it comes to Medicine, and I know people with straight As (the subject grade requirements!) and yet they were still turned down. YOU NEED EXPERIENCE. Seriously, just ask if you can shadow this person and that person, even if you think they will find you annoying. Just do it :) Do as much extracurricular stuff as you can, like going to medical conferences for students and things (ask your college if they know of any good/local ones) and stick them on your UCAS form.
In your interviews, you MUST NOT act really serious/intelligent. Obviously, you don't want to come across as stupid, but they are looking for people who are interested and bursting with enthusiasm, so you've got to sell yourself, and from your GCSE grades alone they will already be able to see that you are clearly an intelligent girl. Smile and seem relaxed, even if you don't FEEL relaxed. Try to get on a summer school. I was accepted onto something like a summer school, but it was more secular, at Cambridge Uni, and I was told that if I ever wanted to apply then that would seriously help when they were considering my application, because it was basically a week-long interview, chatting to the admissions tutors, etc. So if you can get on one, whether it be at Cam or Oxford, or anywhere else for that matter, all unis will see this as clear dedication, plus you have to apply and be chosen for these things, so it looks even better on you.
Good luck! :)
