Why do people believe in Scientology?

1. Human beings are not "immortal". How can one even suggest such a thing as by that logic where are all the new people coming from? Are they suggesting that someone can be multiple beings at once? But that means that no one is unique, rather than causing freedom it takes it away.

2.There is absolutely no evidence to even suggest that any kind of life or "experience" occurs after one has died.

3. There is no such thing as a "spirit" of anything, no evidence, not even a suggestion of it's effects.

4. There is no need for Scientology's beliefs as they have no evidence and completely disregard many well known scientific facts.

5. It was formed less than a century ago. Members of religions can argue that such concepts as evolution and the big bang were incomprehensible to people at the times of their founding but when this cult was formed they were well established, accepted, plausible ideas with evidence.

6.Anything that makes giving money a forced necessity is in no way promoting freedom

7. Name one well educated and respected person that believes in Scientology.

8. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Snow_White - it's criminal

9. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Freakout - it's criminal

10. Members of the cult openly harass those opposed to it.

11. It is has come under serous criticism from governments world wide.

12. It's called Scientology despite having absolutely nothing to do with science.

Update:

@Joshua A lot, but not all.

Update 2:

@TennageAtheist I don't like Christianity at all for it's middle age war mongering and blood thirst but I don't think their all suckers e.g. Copernicus, Newton, Galileo (all Christian)

Update 3:

@Alex-SanstheMercy point taken, but not literally anything

Update 4:

@Agnostic Libertarian thank you for the information, I don't consider it a cult anymore but it's still not a religion in my opinion.

Update 5:

@FelixT That doesn't explain why they joined in the first place or how they could be black-mailed into staying.

Update 6:

@tentofield That doesn't address the question

Scientology attracts people who want to be better than other people, they believe that a "Clear" (someone who has been freed of "engrams") will have supernatural powers and other stuff.

It attracts people with huge egos and money to burn hence why a number of A-Listers are Scientologists.

Its a mix of that and going for the young and impressionable, I remember they were doing those Stress Tests in town, One approached me a young 23 year old who dresses well off and ignored other people walking past I guess if they convert us they can have us for longer.

A lot of it is their methods, they say "Okay your test results are ok, but there are some things holding you back, we can help you" and I guess if they are being told they are getting help by taking auditing and being told the stuff they want to hear they will stick with it. Eventually you can probably break someone down to believe anything you say by increasing your influence on then. The whole Auditing process is set up so you would open up and probably trust someone more than you would normally.

Eventually you are either too brainwashed to think anything outside of Scientology or they just blackmail you to stay in. Thats why all the stuff about Xenu is seen in the "Advanced Stages" at that point the Scientology are so indoctrinated they just believe anything and everything you tell them.

    Well thats my opinion anyway

    Hey you, look,

I don't know the reasons of you being so furious at someone believing something, but I can tell you this: there is a reason and yes, it really upsets you. Why should you spend so many hours thinking about it, trying to rationalize with it, and just look.. you wrote so much for "a question" ? A question that leads you where? Because you're being touched by the argument. It touches you. But why? Why does it touch you so much, see?

This rant is taking you no where. It's only making you look like someone with the need to invalidate others, moved by some hidden and undiscovered reason which you are not even aware about.

As a Scientologist I have no interest whatsoever in explaining you any of these things. There are 500'000 pages of writing explaining the subject. I'm referring to THE BASICS for example. Those books that you could easily have. By your understanding of Scientology you have read like... let's say 100 pages... not even finished a book.. and you were not able to confront the subject anymore.

That's your choice, not mine. My choice is different than your choice is.. but then again.. so what. You choice is to be here today on YA writing about my religion, or some sort of bad description of it, and then to force on people the idea that we are what you say we are... and my choice is to read the books of my religion and study it, and learn something different.. and my life gets better, and won't stop getting better.. and my choice is to answer to you today, saying that you are ridiculous.. and you choice is that perhaps you might respond and so on... so you should be aware of what you are doing. Because if you don't know what you are doing.. then you don't. If you don't know the reasons why Scientology is so interesting to you, and why you wrote so long about when you did write about it, or when you thought about it... if you don't know why you did all this, then you don't. Do you talk so much about.. let's say.. skateboarding ? Do you ?

This "question" can't really be answered because Scientology is not based on any faith or belief .

It is an applied religious philosophy.

The subject of Scientology covers : "the study and handling of the spirit in relationship to itself, universes and other life. "

L.Ron Hubbard explained fully the theology and spiritual technologies of Scientology in more than 500,000 pages of writings, including dozens of books and over 4,000 tape recorded lectures.

A basic principle of Scientology, which underscores this very point that there is no "faith" or "belief " expected or required, is that what is true, is what is true for you, based on your observations and experience .

I do get it that the very little you think you know of Scientology is not true for you .

I don't get how this then compels you to now bash, ridicule, and regurgitate so much media/internet deliberately generated negativity towards this religion and those for whom it is true.

Why not just give your own opinion in the form of a "question" (as you have) and then post the official Scientology site at : www.scientology.org , and let folks find for themselves what Scientology actually is and whether they agree with your opinion or not.

Just a suggestion .... no big deal either way.

People believe in all sorts of things and it is always a mystery. Why do some people believe in Bigfoot?

Btw, Scientology is not really a cult. You can leave anytime you want and you are not required to adhere to its rules and beliefs. You can (adhere to its rules and beliefs) if you want to, if it works for you, but you are not forced to - unlike in real cults. So, technically it is not a cult. I should know because I used to be a member and simply just left when it wasn't working for me. All they did was call to try and convince me to come back. That's all.

Why stop at Scientology? You've got a valid point for most religion in general I'd say.

    Scientology is a brainwashing cult.

Its well known in some circles that the celebrities are blackmailed to stay.

  • If someone already thinks past lives are "real" and that they are themselves a soul that transmigrates from a dead body to a new baby's body, and then lives a new life thus, lifetime after lifetime, planet and universe on and on, for eons of trillions of years (way past science's proven time frame of this universe scientists have proof of), then one is open to Scientology.

The "lower levels" (pseudo therapy) exercise and get a person remembering their life, and possibly a few incidents from past lives.

New Era Dianetics pushes a Scientologist into past life engrams (trauma) moments. And relieving the person of their past life trauma in total, one gets the "Clear" (fake) spiritual status.

"Clear" (fake, there has never been factually a "Clear", only subjectively and anecdotally) is the midway point in the Scientology movement.

Next, and higher, are the "upper levels". There are 8 "upper levels. 5 of the 8 "upper levels" are high volume exorcism!

Exorcism, for real, exorcism. Exorcism of dead space alien souls that infest each human being's body to the tune of up to hundreds of thousands of surplus souls, traumatized souls.

    L. Ron Hubbard's procedures for exorcising the surplus souls (confidential name is "body thetans", and saying this whole phrase "body thetans" is anathema to official "upper level" Scientologists who are NOT allowed to say "body thetans" publicly, due to Hubbard's crazy illogical rules that say that saying these "confidential" Scientology words would potentially cause spiritual damage and confusion to the "lower level" Scientologists!), are called OT levels 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.

OT levels 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7, are all Hubbard's Scientology exorcism, to rid each of us, of our loads of "body thetans."

This is highly highly confidential theoretical information I'm giving freely, which otherwise a person would have to spend years and a lot of money, to learn.

It's so sad that the theoretical spiritual nuts and bolts of Scientology all boil down to past lives crank pseudo trauma relieving therapy (it's actually factually false memory instilling crank therapy). And then the "upper" secret part of Scientology is mostly (5 of the 8 secret "upper" levels) are exorcism.

    High volume exorcism!

That's Scientology, and that's what someone who unwinds fully will simplify it all down to!

The main idea of scientology is to remove as much money as they can from the gullible. Other religions do it too but they make it more respectable by calling it "tithing".

If you haven't observed this yet, I will shed some light on the issue:

Some people will believe anything you tell them, regardless of how out there it truly is.
