Do you feel that if you want to celebrate yourself on your birthday it is in your best interest NOT to attend?

an event that could take away from your own personal celebration?

I'm only asking because I don't want to tell my friend "I told you so", she went to a baby shower on her birthday and I guess nothing went as planned.

The mom-to-be is one of her oldest friends and so most of the people at the shower were people who she grew up with and consider family as well.

I'm on bed rest or else I would of made plans with her to celebrate her birthday. The short story of this is due to my friends car being in the shop and her cellphone wasn't working she was pretty much at the mercy of whomever she was with. Apparently they made plans to go out after the shower but didn't.

I talked to her while she was getting ready and I had a feeling that things were not going to go as she planned. I told her that I think she should cancel since this friend has a history of selfish behavior I told her I don't think they were going to actually celebrate her birthday after the shower.

Now my friend is very upset & I just don't want to say I told you so. We haven't talked yet so I don't have the details but I'm not sure what to say to her. (I only know the night didn't go as planned due to her comments on line).

What would you say to your friend?

Celebrate with her. Tell her you wanted to be with her on her birthday but it was not possible. Order a cake, cheesecake would be great, or some cupcakes, some balloons, and sit together, have a good meal, and talk or watch something, and laugh a lot. She would love it. You're a great friend, thinking about her so much. Hope you feel better soon.

This is one of many reasons why it is always best not to get involved or be an "I told you so" person. In future let people find out for themselves.
