Whats with peoples anime taste?

Why do the same ppl that like attack on titan and FMA, like sh*t like naruto and one piece? Is it simply cuz theyre all popular?? Are they not thinking for themselves?? I just dont get it. Attack on titan is absolutely amazing. Im not even going to comment on naruto and one piece.

The majority of Americans have weird tastes... most of the people calling themselves otakus are just naruto fangirls/boys and haven't experienced the much better side of anime.

To be honest, I don't really hate them, I just pity them.

    "What's with people's anime taste?"

They're all different, that's what. People like what they like for their own reasons. Popularity does seem to factor in to some extent, though, as more popular series are more likely to be seen by those who have little to no anime knowledge at first. That's why series like Naruto and One Piece are hugely popular; they are "gateway anime" that many beginners to anime watch. However, some (most?) never go beyond that point and explore other series other than the ones that are being talked about. It's a pity, though, as there are some fantastic series out there that few have watched or heard of.

With regards to Shingeki/FMA/Naruto/One Piece, they are all shounen anime. They all involve fights of some sort and have fantastical elements (Shingeki no Kyojin with the titans, FMA with the alchemy, Naruto with the jutsu, One Piece with the Devil Fruits). Naturally, their presentation is very different, but that doesn't stop anyone from liking those series. Just because someone likes Shingeki no Kyojin, that doesn't mean that they have to hate Naruto. People's tastes in anime are varied, just like their taste in food. If you like to eat cake but don't like pie, and I like both cake and pie, does that mean my taste in sweets is bad in general?

Don't you ever think that they are popular for a reason. I love all of those anime and why do i love them well because they all have amazing plot and i love the characters. I love watching the fighting scenes and the sad emotional ones as well.

I always been a fan of Naruto and i love One Piece and just because you don't like a certain anime doesn't mean you can say **** things about it just because its popular.

And one more thing WE AMERICANS don't simply watch an anime because its popular and want to claim that we saw it, we wouldn't waste our time watching something that we don't like. Just like any other fan either here in America or in Japan we watch anime because it gets our interest because we like a certain thing not because its popular. So please keep your nasty comments to yourself.

Some of the best anime you'll ever watch are series that many have never heard of before, or were mildly popular in the 90's but not so much anymore. The greatest stories told through the medium of anime are the ones that take time to flesh out the characters, and put them in really interesting situations. Anime that only seeks to satisfy the viewer visually just isn't worth your time. As for people's tastes, the more mainstream series (with exceptions of course) tend to focus on the immidiate needs of the viewers, like : "Is there lots of action and gore in this show", or,"Does the main character look cool?". It's because of this, that I think shows like that are limited storytelling wise.

-Thanks for asking an interesting question!

I prefer to stay away from the overrated anime. I'd rather have the mildly popular or not so popular ones.

It's so annoying - we you go to anime conventions there's always about 10 different Naruto's running around the place.

I like one piece for how adventurous and fresh it is, other than that I don't watch anything mainstream.
