Why do people smoke weed?

This is a genuine question, not one of those questions posted so I can constantly contradict or disagree with opinions. I genuinely want to know why people smoke weed.

Growing up, I was always told through TV or adults that smoking weed was bad always and stupid. And I think, for that reason, I've grown up being annoyed by any and all mentions of people smoking it, but I digress.

I've heard that smoking weed actually causes damage to your body, regardless of what people think, and while I'm not sure how true this is.. you're smoking a foreign substance, I can't imagine it's very healthy to start with.

And so, my original question stands. Serious answers, preferably.

For the same reason people drink alcohol. (and alcohol is actually MORE damaging and dangerous than pot)

They smoke it to relax, unwind, de-stress and have a good time.  The exact same reasons why people drink beer or wine.

Smoking anything causes damage to your body. The question for every individual is: How much does that matter to me? Do I want to live a happy 55 years, or a long and dull 85?

I smoke it, first because I genuinely enjoy the activity. The smell, the feel of it, everything. Aside from that, it also happens to curb my anxiety very well, as opposed to some pill which would leave me feeling oblivious and numb to the world around me.

I mean the reason that comes to mind is ennui. People are bored. People want to be stimulated. I mean I would say this is common activity between my friends and I. For me personally though, it stimulates my creativity. When I smoke all my senses are heightened, slightly more sensitive and my imagination gets going. Music becomes a much more physical experience. I can feel the music touching me. Or I can see it moving in my mind's eye. I create imagery that goes along with the music. Everything is much funnier as well. And I think profoundly. I would generally say that I mostly enjoy smoking weed because it helps me be more creative in every aspect. But also it makes me sleepy and hungry. HAHA

It helps me sleep, helps me think in ways I hadn't been able to before, and reduces my stress. I don't really drink at all, I've never been tempted to try anything "harder" even though I enjoy it regularly.
