    This is a new one to me, just had a question reported, was quite innocent ( think it was in wrong category) doing no harm, it's normally a case of someone is 'peeved' with someone, or jealous, or just feel it is great to put others down.. Don't worry, it goes on all the time, sadly some with category 7/8 can loose an account just like that. Yahoo needs to really look into cases instead of pressing their own button just like that.

    No one knows who they are, even those who are trusted reporters do not know for sure. Not everyone is a trusted reporter, it is something that takes time and accurate reporting. It is all done by a computer program.

    It is not a matter of Yahoo not accepting new ones at all, there isn't an application to be one where they say they are not allowing new ones.

    ..........It is all depending on how often and how accurate your reports are.. Yahoo would not likely have a limit of how many top reporters there can be and if they did for sure only they would know.

    As it is now there are too many that just ignore violations and don't report but just keep posting answers to get those 2 points they are obsessed with getting.

    Some will post the silliest nonsense as answers as if it is fact.

    As explained by a number of answers here it is a fairly simple system. It has nothing to do with being allowed or not allowed to become a trusted reporter.

    It is a few simple lines of code that determine your trusted reporter rating. Some of the factors are the number of reports, the accuracy of the reports and the users history. The details are confidential and have been discussed at length. One factor that is often ignored is that having a history of violations has a substantial negative impact on your trust rating, as much as incorrectly reporting other users.

    Reporter trolls.

    @Sombra

    I disagree. There are some little weasels who abuse the system and may have a lot of spite. I am NOT saying ALL reporters are trolls. I am saying that SOME WILL BE trolls, just to bully others who did no wrong. The reporting system is far from being perfect, and there won't always be a moderator to analyze and discern who is the real offender.

    No one is 'appointed'.

    Users with high reporting trust are those who report actual violations, while leaving non-violating content alone. Anyone who reports answers (or questions) simply because they don't like them won't have much reporting trust at all.

    If something is impossible to understand (incomprehensible), that IS a valid reason to report. Anyone can gain reporting trust, but to do so a user must have a history of correct, consistent reporting.

    ADDED: No, they are NOT 'reporter trolls'. They are users who are careful to only report what SHOULD be reported. Anyone reporting for spite or for any reason other than simply to remove violating content is a 'reporter troll'.

    You already are, although few members have the highest "trust level." There is no fast way and there are very few out of the thousands of YA members even if they have been here for years who have the highest "trust level" so their single abuse report of a violation results in deletion of the post. when you start with YA your "trust level" is very low.All Members increase their "trust level" by reporting often and accurately. You could take the YA quiz to ensure you are reporting posts which are violations and also earn 20 points at the same time. Go below.
