Bad and Good. Do such things really exist?

Thank you.

Update:

At some point in history our ancestors did not have verbal language. Did good and bad exist back then?

It's all a matter of mindset/perception. Humans put labels on the "good" and "bad", so it all just depends on your viewpoint.

  • Yes they do. Man's innate sense of good and evil exists on an instinctual level and has to be brought to a cognitive level through the teaching of various morals and standards, just like every other emotion and instinct. This creates the illusion that morality is a purely mental thing. This is why people are not completely indifferent one way or the other with morality, and also why people who say that good and evil don't exist still live as if it does.

Of course "Bad and Good" existed. If it didn't, and the people were not human, then nothing you see today would have been built, and human creatures would be extinct. As the morality declines, so does the country. As the morality declines, so does the culture. As the morality declines, so goes the security. As the morality declines, so goes the art and music, a cultural barometer.

It's claimed that the Roman Empire fell due to moral decay. Also, the ancient Greeks spoke in the dramas and other art about human morality failings, and each of the protagonists in their tragic plays had a "Tragic Flaw" in their character. To deny "Bad and Good" is to deny sanity.

  • It's all circumstantial... There are so many gray areas. What is good for one person may be bad for another.

Of course, there are some things that are seemingly obvious, like rape. Bad, right? Unless the person being raped was a child molester...

Let's try again... Murder. Bad, right? Unless the one who's been killed was a serial killer...

Hmm... Babies? Innocent, so good. But a baby with colic that cries all the time? Well.. Can't say a baby's bad...

Anyway, bad and good exists, we just each have our own rules for what qualifies for each...

i've thought of those things before and sometimes i think that there are no such things cuz what we do may just our ways of living and suviving and other stuff but then i think that my thoughts don't make sense then think that there are such things as those.

When one of the clan members was swallowed by a dinosaur I'm sure they thought it was bad

In order for our species to progress there has to be. It exists because we need it to exist.

For all practical purposes they do. Whether or not there is a universal objective basis for morality is more or less academic.
