Can a person work in the US with a spouse visa?
I was just wondering. I can't find this information anywhere.Google isn't being friendly right now.
Maxi:
None of that answered my question. There was nothing on there about being able to work once the spouse visa was approved. It only mentioned you should apply for a k-3 while you wait for your permanent residency.

if you enter the US on an IR-1 or CR-1 immigrant visa, you're processed for a green card and a social security number at entry. it does take several months to get the green card though. So, yes a person who enters on a spouse visa can work. The k-3 is a non-immigrant visa and rarely used anymore. if a person entered on a K-3, they'd have to file an I-485 for adjustment of status to get the green card. that takes a bit longer and there's a $1,000 fee as well.

The spouse visa grants your spouse the right to travel to the USA and take up permanent residency.
She enters on the spouse visa. On entry they give her a form to mail in for her
Green Card.
After you and she find a place to live, she sends in the form, and about a month later her Green Card, demonstrating she has permission for permanent residency arrives in the mail.
As a permanent resident, she not only have permission to live in the USA, but ALSO to work here..
To summarize. The spouse visa allows her to enter and she is already approved for permanent residency.
The Green Card is proof of her permanent residency permission.
