Is this "story" just another attempt to discredit religion and belief in God?
I have noticed this supposed story about good and bad college majors on Yahoo several times. It looks like a genuine story but the more I look I see the not-too-subtle agenda. The last two "bad" choices as college majors are PHILOSOPHY and RELIGIOUS STUDIES (read THEOLOGY!)
http://education.yahoo.net/articles/degrees_to_avo...
The story keeps popping up on Yahoo like it's NEWS. But my sense is that as usual, like the countless yahoo stories that have the word "gay" in them, there is an AGENDA on the part of yahoo. It is to plan in the subconscious of high schoolers that in no way would choosing philosophy or religious studies be a positive thing. If they were even THINKING about going into the ministry, these would be ideal majors. Philosophy for the underpinnings and then theology / religious studies to get them ready for pastoring.
Is it just me or does anyone else see what Yahoo is doing with biased reporting like this? Young people can be easily dissuaded by sources they believe. Making these choices look like they are useless or terrible ones will not encourage those who are considering ministry as an option.
*PLANT in the subconscious.... not 'plan'. Sorry.

There is not much difference among the unemployment rates for religious studies, philosophy, computer science or communication. Less than 1.5%
I cannot imagine why anyone would take religious studies unless they wanted to go into the ministry.
In the hypothetical situation where people are of independent means and never have to work for a living, they can study whatever they like. Few people have that option.
Philosophy and classics departments in most universities have been having a hard time for years since potential students already know that these degrees lead nowhere. They don't need a page on Yahoo! to tell them that.

It seems to make sense to me. An employer would look for a graduate who had some relevant learning to the job they are trying to fill. Certainly unless you are trying to employ a priest the a degree in Theology is not a lot of use to you and there are not many employers recruiting priests

You obviously don't know how to read an article. Did you see why those five majors were listed? They are the five majors with the highest levels of unemployment for recent graduates. It's as simple as that. There's no agenda. The "agenda" is only in your paranoid mind.

Conspiracy theories about implanting ideas into the subconscious belong in the science fiction section.

Religion doesn't need yahoo to give it a bad name. It does that all by itself.

I honestly don't think they should be majors. But whatever people will pay for I guess.
