Why should I hold myself to the same standards as everyone else?

I know for a fact that I am possessed of uncommon clarity of mind in dealing with human issues and feelings, though i'm not quite as bright as I am sharp. I understand, and I always seek to understand more.

So why should I hold myself to the standards of those who understand nothing, and seek to understand nothing more?

Because if you were as 'sharp' and as intelligent as you seem to imagine, you should realise that people with a higher level of mental acuity would actually hold themselves to at least equal, if not higher standards than those with lower intellect and understanding.

For a start, exactly what are these standards of "those who understand nothing and seek to understand nothing more"? Are these people committed to being willfully ignorant? Or are they of diminished mental capacity and unable, even if they wished to do so, of being more than they actually are? And precisely who is this "everyone else" to whom you refer?

Hold yourself to whatever standards mean something to you. One could hope that these would include compassion, empathy and acceptance. One could also "live in hope"....

It's a pity Yahoo Answers doesn't award some sort of credit per word.
