miniscule navy, loss of trade due to a blockade, British had a much better & skilled army, British & Canadians had control of the St. Lawrence river & most of the great lakes.
Brits had more native tribes cooperate with them & who hated the Americans.
Americans did not have sufficient manufacturing in regards to shipbuilding, ammunition, gun powder etc.
Americans thought the French Canadians would side with the US & more Canadian colonists wou8ld also side with the US.
Many US citizens in the New England states jwere going bankrupt due to the lack of ocean going trade.
