I gained 2.5 lbs. overnight?!?

Wth. I've been on a diet for a little over a week now. I had already lost almost 5 lbs from Mar. 24-yesterday. I went 132 calories over yesterday because I read the nutrition labels on my lunch wrong and didn't realize until after I had already purchased the food. I also slacked up on my water and only drank about 4 cups instead of 6 (which I'm working to get up to 8+). Then, at around 12:30 AM I ate a 255 calorie sandwich because I worked 5-10 and missed dinner.

I exercised everyday but Sunday last week and was going to work out yesterday, but I was up until almost 1:00 doing homework (and still didn't finish everything) and was barely awake enough to finish one (of many) of my assignments. While I could have and have got by on 2 hours of sleep and less, I just could not motivate myself to do exercise last night/this morning.

I got on the scale this morning and it read +2.5 pounds.

>:-((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( I weighed myself again just to make sure it and it still said +2.5 lbs. WTFFFFFFFFF

Is this normal or just water weight?

Update:

@Connor- Given that I'm a former anorexic, not looking at the scale every day is not something that i can just quit cold turkey without driving myself even more insane than I would be if I knew my exact weight every day. And seeing as the point of losing weight is to make the number on the scale go down, I think concern is reasonable. So, the last sentence of your answer would've sufficed. #thatawkwardmomentwhenbeingasmartassdoesntworkout

Your weight can fluctuate a little, and your body can also be responding to all kinds of environmental factors. It also seems to me your life is a bit hectic. 2.5 pounds is nothing, maybe you hadn't even gone to the bathroom yet.

You don't want to rush things, you just want a durable weight loss. If you lose a lot very quickly, your body will become hyperefficient and then you can barely eat after your diet is over. The same goes for the exercising. Stopping or not keeping it up is going to give you a tremendous hit later, unless you always keep doing it.

Don't check your weight too often. And make sure your exercise schedule isn't too demanding. Being regular is more important than anything else.

If you are going to be a baby about numbers on a scale, only weigh yourself once every two weeks.

Your weight will change by several pounds throughout the day. Body fat doesn't come on or off that fast. It's all water.

Your weight changes all the time which is why you shouldn't weight yourself multiple times a day. It changes depending on hydration, digestion, water and glycogen storage. It is normal to change by 2-3lbs each way daily, it does not mean you've gained 2lbs of fat.
