Is God self contradictory?
There's a general consensus among the religious community (or at least amongst the followers of Abrahamic religions) that God is all of 3 things:
Omniscient (all knowing)
Omnipotent (all powerful)
Omnibenevolent (Unable to do evil) or entirely righteous, I've had people tell me off for mixing them up.
So, doesn't it seem like omnipotence and omnibenevolence would come into conflict with reality? An omnipotent AND omnibenevolent God would never allow evil to exist, because it'd be against his nature. So... why does evil still exist?
Another problem is omniscience and omnibenevolence. One who is omniscient must surely know what it's like to WANT to murder someone, (or put so eloquently by DarkMatter2525 on Youtube, "know what it's like to snort coke off a hooker's t*t") but that'd also go against the nature of someone who is omnibenevolent OR entirely righteous.
And finally, omnibenevolence would of course come into conflict with the ability to send people to Hell. Sending anyone to Hell is eternal torture, making it an infinitely horrible thing to do.
I do understand that there's a free will argument to this. However, if God were unable to do evil, he would simply give us the illusion of free will, but actually make it impossible for humans to do evil. That way, everyone's happy. It's the only benevolent outcome to the creation of humans.
@Caramel B.
I understand the Bible just fine. I've studied it for years, and I think I know a little more about it than you do. Including the fact that God of the Old Testament was NOT a parable, and is possibly one of the most detestable characters in all fiction. He's corrupted by pride, he's jealous, he's greedy, he's gullible, and on top of that, he has genocidal tendencies and a complete disregard for human life. Read YOUR Bible some more.

God gives people free will because He does not want us to be robots. He wants us to choose to do the right thing because they want to, not because they are programmed to.
Also, suffering reminds us that earth is not our permanent home. Suffering in the world also teaches us how to have compassion, and care for others.

Dear Dane,
As we understand God's nature--HE is holy and omnipotent (and more), you are right its against HIS nature. But not against the nature of mankind. Evil exist not because of God, but because of the evil that comes from the hearts and mind of humanity. Why do people blame God? Hey, think about it. People lie, why blame God? People murder. Why blame God? People jerk off and do all types of sexual perversions. Why blame God? Truth be told, HIS Word told us NOT to do this stuff so that we would live in harmony with each other and enjoy the blessing of HIS presence.
Who wants to stick around the stench of sin?
Note: Hell is the consequence of not receiving Salvation and turning away of from living sinful. Everyone can chose. What do you chose?
God is perfect, and Holy. HE is never the problem. Isn't pride nasty? It was the sin that caused man's fall.
All the best.

You figured it out!
Middle Eastern religious explanations were dirived from copper-age goat-herders trying to explain the unexplainable things in their reality. They also were fearful of losing their self-awareness upon their death. These are very common and justified fears and attitudes.
However, this is the Technology-age and those old copper-mentalities are way over-rated and out-dated. Yet the sheeple still use them to give themselves comfort for just the same reason as 4000 years ago when those B.S. explainations began.
What you figured out was that those explanations are nonsense that can not bear the weight of their own explanations. For God to be Omniscient, would make Him evil for planting a dangerous tree in a safe place instead of the noted dangerous place. Worse, forgoing creating the two people with the "freewill" to NOT eat from the tree for the two with the "freewill" that will eat from said-same dangerous tree (making it dangerous.) Then telling those two people not to eat from the tree as if the Omniscient doesn't know what's going to happen.
Or, knowing on any given persons Conception Day every single movement of their "freewill" in their upcoming life then "judging" them afterward.
The famous one is creating souls NOT to Standards, then blaming the souls for the very nature they were created to have.
Omniscience easily wipes out any and all attempts at philosophy the Middle Eastern Tomes offer--except one:
God is Omniscient.
Threrein lies the reason why Sunday School(s) and religious institutions do not actually *incorporate* "God is Omniscient" beyond saying it---it destroys the explanation (they would call it "philosophy") of the bureaucracy of the Upper Clergy whose retirement and benefit account(s) DEPEND on the gullible.
He is also described as, "Omnipresent."

There is no contradiction regarding anything about God. You just don't understand the bible.
Not saying OI know so much, but what I do know, I know I owe it all to God. He has given me the knowledge to see truth in his word. When you read one verse, you leave ti there and start to make a completion of what it is teaching, but the bible teaches that we have to always compare scripture with scripture when we read the bible. The bible is it;s own dictionary. It explains itself. Every verse from the bible is dripping with information. The bible is a spiritual book. It teaches that Christ only spoke in parables. Without a parable he did not speak. So, the bible is not contradicting itself. You just don;t know how to understand it. God said that he gives us understanding of the bible.

God is absolutely omniscient, omnipotent, and omnibenevolent. He is 100% righteous, sinless, and perfect. He in fact did create us in His image (Genesis 1:27), and so we were intended to be perfect and without sin. But He knew we would mess it up, as indeed Adam and Eve did when they were tempted by Satan. So you're right, there is evil and sin in the world, but God knew it would happen all along.

Free will. When Adam and Eve first sinned, evil entered the world. Sin and death entered. Before that, everything was good as God had said.
God doesn't contradict himself.

Of course, but expecting logic and rationality from a theist is like looking west for the sun to rise.

There are plenty of contradictions. Can God microwave a burrito so hot that even He can't eat it? I think not.

Have you ever heard of the Euthyphro dilemma. I guess if you are a Christian you have not.......
