how long can Yahoo go on holding answers open?

This crazy idea of removing the community vote has resulted in a huge queue of open questions, because most askers do not choose a best answer.

As a responsible member of the yahoo community I have been searching for long-standing unresolved questions in my field so I could help to choose a best answer.

Now the community vote has been removed I can no longer do this.

Now when I go to choose questions to answer I am finding Old q's the asker has forgotten about, or are now redundant.

This question is a test to see how the system responds. Thanks for your help and input.

Update:

Thanks folks!

yes gerry they could. Even that would be better 'cos at present its not possible to see who is still awaiting a useful answer.

" just answering the questions is what the site is really all about. "

No. I get a good feeling when I get a best answer 'cos then I know I've helped the asker.

"all resolved questions remained on the site permanently anyway"

resolved questions are a useful resource. Whats the use of ten years worth of unanswered homework questions still open for

Update 2:

..answers?

" just not allow people to vote for their own answers"

now that WOULD be sensible!

Only the Yahoo people know that answer so we'll have to just wait and see.

I did a lot of random voting before the change, especially in the Christmas section - it was the worst for No votes. Then I worked on really old questions searching for a BA & if I couldn't find one, I'd click the No Best Button.

I've personally dropped participating here by extreme measures since voting was what I enjoyed the most. I felt like a 'contributing member' when we could vote & now I see thousands of questions sitting there never to be resolved even though many have really good answers to them.

Source(s): I'm a hearing impaired guy that used to vote 100 or more random questions weekly - I miss that right as it's quite obvious that most OP's are still choosing to be MIA.

I would say as long as they want. I agree it's ridiculous to have so many unresolved questions. But since all resolved questions remained on the site permanently anyway, it's just more open questions but the same amount of questions in total.

Not everyone lives and breathes for this site, so I don't think we should blame askers for not choosing. But they need to bring voting back, and just not allow people to vote for their own answers. I think that was the complaint a lot of Y!A users had with voting. So take that option away and bring voting back.

Now with their poor choice of change forever..Didn't they stop and think that

the asker doesn't actually know the best or correct answer ...Why would anyone think that the person asking the question would know more than the people answering, that's why they asked the question in the first place.

It is going downhill, isn't it? I wish they'd just go back to the old green format.

  • How do you think about the answers? You can sign in to vote the answer.

    Amen !!!

Also, it would be useful if when a question is "clicked", the person could return to the same position in the list, rather than scrolling down again.

Yes, I too miss the old format.
