Is it okay to have a beer after working out?
I worked out about 5 hours ago (boxing and a lot of conditioning). I don't want to get smashed I just want to kick back and have a beer or two. Will this have any negative effect on my muscle recovery/growth or my conditioning and cardio?
Thanks.
Update: Just to clarify, I work out at least twice a week and I'm in pretty good physical shape. This isn't a one and done deal… if that was the case, I wouldn't drink after my only workout. So my question is based on me already being in healthy shape to begin with.
Also, I don't work out to lose weight. If anything, I'm trying to add bulk to my body (not like Schwarzenneggar or anything but a reasonable amount for my body type which is thin).

Everything you consume effects your conditioning efforts. If a beer is what you want, just have the beer but don't have the beer, chips, pretzels, pizza, ice cream also! We all have our crutches in life, we just need to know how to minimize and control them. Good Luck!

Drinking alcohol is defeating much of your results of working out. Beer has lots of calories and have ever heard of the phrase beer gut? Think about what you put in your body.
