has feminism gone too far?

Catherine Kieu mutilated a mans genitals because he asked for a divorce. a group of women openly mocked the victim of the crime while the entirety of the female fans present laughed. do I even need to say that if this was a woman whose genitals were cut off by a husband who had asked for a divorce that this might have played out a little differently? no feminist can argue this, is the WORST form of sexism in the civilized world and women are to blame

Well, the movement is now encompassing people who have certainly gone too far. Indeed its major organizations are now going too far. When the single largest femninist organization continually goes too far, doesn't that mean that organization has lost its way?

The major feminist organizations, at least in the US are responsible for lobbying the Congress (NOW, the National Organization of Women) to keep pumping billions of dollars into "girl empowerment" programs in K-12 while blocking any attempt to divert any of that money to gender neutral or boy empowerment programs despite the fact that 20% more girls graduate high school than boys, 25% more women graduate college than men and 4 times more boys commit suicide than girls.

These are the same feminists that blocked OXFAM from supporting male victims of sexual violence in the Congo and only allowed them to provide aid to female victims of sexual violence. To aid men was "off message". Very nice.

These are the same feminists who created the "Don't be that guy" campaigns across US university campuses creating a climate of hostility (thereby detering education) but with absolutely no evidence that it would deter any rapes.

These are the same feminists who protest battered husband meetings.

"Humanists" don't do these things. Feminists do them.

This is why more and more people don't identify themselves as "feminists" - but rather use the title "humanist" or "gender equality advocate." This is why there are more people who actively hate feminists.

The very fact that feminists hold on to the "fem" in the title is pretty good proof of what's going on.

As Thomas of this group put so eloquently:

"But you should know by now that feminism is about gaining and keeping rights and opportunities for women."

There's no "equality" in that concept. That's just getting more for women.

Most Western women want equality. They don't want what this new wave of feminism brings. They want nothing to do with it.

You talk about specific instances of a small number of feminists doing publically outrageous things and yeah, my example of the feminists blundering into the battered husbands meeting falls into that catagory - but when you're talking about NOW and how it lobbies, you're talking about where hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of feminists send their dues ...

It *MUST* be representative of feminist thought.

And yeah, it has gone too far.

    yes.

the woman who did that is a feminist and the women who mock the victim and laugh are feminists too. why do feminists deny that? simple, if it wasnt feminists who did that, then it is impossible to blame feminists for it and that is how feminists protect a feminist who has doen a crime like this. feminisms ideologies are misandryic and the propagation of feminism leads to secksualised violence like that woman did to a man, which is secksualised violence as in rap\ e and feminist rap\ e culture.

did you notice something? the feminists here do not condemn that woman but protect her as i write above. what does that tell you about feminist? it tells they are all like that, if not, they wouldnt defend each others misandry like this.

why doesnt this happen in saudi arabia, qatar and oman ?

western men should learn from middle eastern men how to treat women.

Feminism itself is a flawed concept. They say they want equal rights and yet women have to be prioritized? I want equal rights, I just don't want women controlling everything through double standards and sex appeal.

It is very true! Feminism has gone way to far. I am a female saying this. I believe that female shouldn't be able to have all the rights as men do. And why? Reasons like this one! What good has feminism brought us? None is the answer women running around here with many children and no husbands; std's, and not to mention they raise their chins as if they are goddesses compared to men. Anyone who does not agree with me cannot face the fact.

Catherine Kieu is a criminal and needs locking up. There are various reasons why the women (and men?) in that show laughed - Sharon Osbourne's outrageous comments and actions being the main one. It was inappropriate and she was forced to apologize. She should have been sacked.

It's an effed up double standard that should not be accepted. Where's Dick Masterson when you need him.

"A group of women" = feminists, how exactly? A bunch of cruel women laughing at torture = feminism, how exactly?

I agree that a lot of feminists take it too far. And Catherine Kieu needs life in prison without parole. She basically tortured a guy cause he wanted a divorce. I am pretty sure if a guy did that to his wife, people would be angrier than they are at Catherine. I find this sickening.

It is one of the worst forms of sexism, yeah, but women are not to blame. The women who do it are to blame and the women who support it. You wouldn't like it if I blamed all men for what Ted Bundy did to women, would you?

I'm not sure they were even feminists and certainly they were not representing feminism in any way shape or form but of course you can use feminists as scapegoats and falsely blame the millions and millions of them for what some random women say - of course - making hasty generalizations is a good way to create hate and misunderstanding between the sexes and be incredibly sexist yourself that is what you are doing with this question.
