At what age can you leave your EU member state?

I'm a British citizen, if I want to leave the United Kingdom and travel to another member state outside the CTA without parental permission, how hold do I have to be? 16? 18?

Does it vary on whether one is entering the Schengen Zone or non-Schengen states?

Update:

Just to clarify - this isn't to LIVE in another EU state, just to go on holiday or spend a couple of weeks maybe months out there.

In the UK you need to be 16 years old ( as long as you are not classed as vunerable/in danger) so you have the money and mental ability to cope/manage/survive, however you could face some issues as you are legally not able to sign a contract until you are 18year old and other countries have various laws which you would have to adhear to, you can travel, B&B/hotel you will need cash or the contract issue stops you doing so........ and then of course when you decide to come home your parents may not be so welcoming of you back into their home, so think carefully before you decide to play grown up, as once you do that you may have no other choice but to continue

16, once you have an adult passport you can get through passport control on your own

of course, you'll have to sleep rough as you won't be able to stay anywhere because nowhere will rent you a room till you are 18.

There is no actual age limit set from when you can leave.

It depends on the individual countries, the law of the country you plan to travel to, and the terms and conditions of the airline you fly with.

Most airline websites require you to be at least 18 years in order to book a flight; most hotels do not rent rooms to people below 18 years.
