Can someone get me excommunicated...?

...I left catholicism a few decades ago and am atheist.

I wish to be excommunicated so they quit including me in their tally of adherents.

latae sentinae = you have already excommunicated your self , no one else has to do it for you , your baptism is a permanent mark on your soul

There actually is paperwork you can file - but someone else cannot file it for you. Contact your local Roman Catholic Preist for the specifics.

So excommunication is NOT what you want. That shows a misunderstanding about the Catholic faith. Hmmm... I wonder what other things about the faith you mistakenly reject, without understanding?

Excommunication is only for Catholics and they are STILL Catholic after the excommunication. The hope is that they will repent and rejoin the church at some point. Such was the case for 3 Priests who were excommunicated some 25 years ago and then approached Pope Benedict and were reconciled.

    Excommunication can ALWAYS be undone.

Sounds like you want something a little stronger.

I would agree with Kazoo, except that by Canon Law - Baptism, which makes you a child of God, can NOT be undone.

Certain past events, simply can not be undone - it is that plain and simple. You WERE baptized, that's a fact.

BUT, following the procedures of a Formal Defection "actus formalis defectionis ab Ecclesia catholica" one CAN be removed from any census information that the church may report.

The church still considers excommunicated people part of the church anyway.

Truthfully, the only way a Catholic can leave the Church is to perform "Formal Defection".

The above requires the individual to write a formal letter to the Bishop where you reside, you should also forward the letter to the Local Parish where you were baptized (if available).

Once the above is completed you will be contacted to make sure the letter is valid and you are the person; a person from the pastorial council will visit your home to insist the latter is true.

Furthermore, the Bishop may ask a priest to contact you to discuss the reasons for your excommunication from the church.

The above is a process which requires a little time since the church must know without a doubt the above is valid.

Once the formal defection is completed your name will be removed from the Church registry and anything the church provided for you will be eliminated (Baptism, 1st Holy Communion & Confirmation).

Additionally, in the event you were married in a Catholic church other problems will arise since you are no-longer married in the eyes of the Church; your marriage will only be a legal concern.

Thousands of Catholics leave the church each year but practically none of them have the courtesy to do it properly and within the guidlines of the Church.

Truthfully, they feel very uneasy about the complete formal method of being severed from all ties with the Catholic Church; should they desire to return some day?

The blogs, posts & information you view on the internet are all from unreliable websites, view the Vatican website for the truth.

Personally, I am a Catholic and would never leave the Magisterium - I would have to be physically kicked out to walk away.

    God bless'

Write to your Bishop explaining you want to be excommunicated and you no longer believe but this could be a very long process. I suggest you get yourself a copy of the Code of Canon Law and see if there is anything in there that will help you get excommunicated.
