Why do Muslims get so much sh*t for this?

Why do Muslims get so much sh*t from some people when women are seen with their heads covered when Paul recommends that Christian women do the exact same thing for the exact same reason (modesty)?

"... If a woman does not cover her head, she should should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man...For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head."

1 Corinthians 6-10 NIV

Seems pretty clear. Why is this ignored? Why do Muslims get this horrible reputation when Christians are supposed to do the same? (I am not a Muslim).

I realize there is hypocrisy in this world, but this is beyond ridiculous. Christians- stop cherry-picking your favorite verses and follow the Bible!

Update:

Geez... I didn't mean to pick on Christians. I realize that Muslims get sh*t from atheists too. Sorry everyone.

Update 2:

I absolutely do not think all Christians are the same. I was a Christian. Again, sorry to pick on Christians. Everyone does it.

Kate, you'd realize if all religions followed whats on their holy books like Muslims do, then all would get as much sh*t as Muslims do if not more.

Muslims are the only ones who follow what is commanded on them and dont adapt to what the masses approve of therefor they will get the most sh*t. Muslims believe that that's a test of faith when choosing between pleasing God or pleasing the masses.

To Muslims the Quran is the literal word of God, so they cant pick and choose what to follow or dont follow.

because you are so wrong about it all, the covering is not about hair or cloth, it is about having Jesus in your forehead, you see, the subject there is about when satan came down and slept with the daughters of adam and made hybrids, geber, they did not have God in their minds, it is not about hairstyles or cloths,

so you stop being a hypocrite and lieing and twisting scripture thinking you finally found something that is wrong or done wrong, you don't know what the heck you are talking about, you let satan whisper his crap into your ear and you are just fool enough to listen and repeat it.

Sorry but the Bible does not read like the Qur'an. Each Book of the Bible has chapters and what you are quoting is chapter 11 of 1 Corinthians. What it says is a woman should not pray or prophesy with her head uncovered but has nothing to do with a woman on the street going with her head uncovered. The Bible has many verses if you read them separate you can make them mean different things.

If a man rapes a woman because he was her hair then it is his sin, not hers. We as Christians, hold the man guilt for his sin of lust. As a believer in God or Allah a woman should be able to walk down the street nude and any man who touched her sexual be DAMNED.

This is a good question which I agree with. Muslim women look great with hijab, nuns too. But we choice to live with blind faith, why do Jew and muslim refrain from pork and eat khorsher and halal, yet we put anything in our mouths. Diabetes, blood pressures and more if we eat right. When in fact is a Gods way. We have reworded gods words to fit our comforts.

When Paul wrote that instruction to Christians, he was dealing with propriety when they came together for public worship. In that day and age, it was the custom for ladies to have a head covering (but NOT a burqa). Only women of ill repute would flaunt their hair in public. So if non-Christians saw women going in to a gathering where men were also present, without their hair covered, the wrong impression would be given.

It was a custom of the day. You must admit that now-a-days, in the West, China, and many other places, women are no longer judged as being modest or immoral based on whether they have a head covering or not! And even if a woman was immoral, she would still be welcome in a Christian church if she came to learn about God and salvation. Coming into fellowship with Christians would help her see the difference between living for God and living for this world's passing pleasures. Same with immoral men, of course.

But in Muslim countries where Sharia is enforced, we see shocking disregard for moral women. This has happened recently with a Mrs Ibrahim. Here is what the Sunday Times 18 May 2014 said about the death sentence imposed by an Islamic court in Sudan on Meriam Yehya Ibrahim, 27, a pregnant woman, for her refusal to recant her Christian faith.

Former Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Carey said, "It is accepted doctrine in Islam [that] you don’t convert and if you do the penalty may be death. When Muslims do convert they almost go underground and there are examples of this in Britain.”

Mrs Ibrahim, who is eight months pregnant, was convicted of apostasy, or the renunciation of faith, by a court in Khartoum last week after she told the judge: “I am a Christian and I never committed apostasy.” Sudan, where the majority of the population is Muslim, is governed by Sharia (Islamic) law. Ibrahim is in prison with her 18-month-old son and is allowed a stay of execution for one and a half years from when the baby is born for it to be weaned. Her husband uses a wheelchair and is entirely dependent on her, according to her lawyer. Ibrahim will also receive 100 lashes for adultery because her marriage to a Christian man is not recognised under Sharia.

She was born to a Sudanese Muslim father and an Egyptian Orthodox mother. According to rights groups, she was brought up as a Christian after her father left when she was six years old. Dr Al-Fatih Izz al-Din, the national assembly’s Speaker, said she was not brought up in a non-Muslim home, as she had claimed, but that both parents were Muslims.

Michael Nazir-Ali, the former Bishop of Rochester and chairman of Oxtrad, which trains Christians for ministry in places where the church is in danger of persecution, said some signatories to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights had circumvented article 18, which guarantees freedom of religion, by adding a proviso that it would be upheld insofar as it was consistent with Sharia. He said he was “outraged” by the way Ibrahim had been “victimised”. [quote ends]

Did you notice this bit: "100 lashes for adultery because her marriage to a Christian man is not recognised under Sharia"? On top of the death penalty, she is to be lashed one hundred times for adultery! Yet she is a married woman! Both her children are legitimate despite the Khartoum court denying this. There was a photo of the lady and her husband (in a wheelchair) on their wedding day. But this is why Muslims get so much bad press. They need to. The whole world needs to waken up to the gross miscarriages of justice against women where Sharia is enforced. There is absolutely NO comparison whatever with what the apostle Paul said in the first century! AiH

Good job at cherry picking the verse. Read the whole thing not just that one verse that suits your agenda. It is talking about praying and prophesying and nothing else. "Now I praise you because you always remember me and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you. But I want you to know that Christ is the head of every man, and the man is the head of the woman, and God is the head of Christ. Every man who prays or prophesies with something on his head dishonors his head. But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since that is one and the same as having her head shaved. So if a woman’s head is not covered, her hair should be cut off. But if it is disgraceful for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, she should be covered.

A man, in fact, should not cover his head, because he is God’s image and glory, but woman is man’s glory. For man did not come from woman, but woman came from man. And man was not created for woman, but woman for man. This is why a woman should have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, and man is not independent of woman. For just as woman came from man, so man comes through woman, and all things come from God.

Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair it is a disgrace to him, but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her as a covering. But if anyone wants to argue about this, we have no other custom, nor do the churches of God." -1 Corinthians 11:2-16

Read the whole thing, like I said. You need the context to completely understand, not just one verse. You did such a great job at doing the same thing that you accuse others of doing.

Yeah it's kind of ridiculous how much ppl go on about that. What is so crazy about covering your head?? Some Christians do a lot more crazy stuff than that but they just don't see it because it's customary for them and so feels normal.

It's culturally laden in it's meaning. A woman with her head uncovered does not mean the same thing now as it did then. It was an act of defiance back then. Paul did not want Christianity to be part of a women's movement or cultural revolution.

It's not covering of the head that non-Muslims object to. It's Sharia law and covering their entire body, because a Muslim man is a wild animal of lust if he can see a woman's ankles or arms. It is absurd thinking.
