When is the best time of day for dining out?

What are your reasons?

such as quality of food or service

bonus question: What are your favorite places to eat & the best time of day to eat there?

Update:

Are you influenced by when food is freshest or when the service is best or when it's busiest or not too busy?

Update 2:

Looks like a lot of good answers. When my friends & I have a day off & want to go out for lunch, seems like 11:30 is a great time to avoid the lunch crowd & to get the very freshest food, especially for a buffet. It's often the same thing around 5:30 in the evening. Of course, for a late evening meal, the crowds may have thinned out when it's after 8 pm. Just don't go at 8:30 when they close at 9 because the workers would just like you to hurry so they can clean up.

I tend to eat earlier than later since retiring from my days of work. My heavier meals are usually lunch or brunch. My lighter meals are breakfast & dinner. The actual time of day varies since i do not feel hungry during the usual times.

We tend to stay away from crowded noisy restaurants which may be the reason we usually do not go during prime time --- either before or after those crowds are there.

quality & taste of the food are most important.

Bonus Q : we favor small local independent restaurants - more ethnic restaurants have fresh tasty foods at fair prices.

Depends on what you are looking for.

Breakfast- only one thing needs to be said. PANCAKES.

Cheapest and having the rest of the day to do stuff and being more casual and less busy-lunch

Dinner-more expensive, more options, less casual, busier, heavier foods ( Like some restaurants have a smaller lunch portion and then a dinner portion).

Best time for me to eat out is when I'm hungry! BUT the best time to get the best quality food is before the rush before noon.

We have a local truck stop that is my favorite place to eat, it is almost like gourmet and very nicely decorated. It's right along the interstate so a lot of travelers stop there as well as people from nearby towns and I've known people to drive 30 or so miles just to have dinner there. R-Place

I also do like a few of the fast food places like Belacino's, Dairy Queen, Culvers, Pizza Hut, Applebees, Chili's. The locally-owned restaurants are the best though.

I don't like to go anywhere out to eat on holidays because most places are very crowded and have long waiting times.

The best days and times that you like.

I like the early week days, or times when there are too many people so you can get a table by yourself so you can just enjoy the meal and what can be see out of windows.

That may not suit all so if you are with friends or hubby you may like crowds noise and many others.

Those other factors can only come into it after having a meal there first to be able to judge them. Often a place that appears to be a dive turn out great meals whilst others that seem classier a barley satisfactory.

I once had to dine on a Friday night from 1800-1900 and there was a downstairs restaurant without an attractive appearance from the footpath, but it was a bright tropical style decor and sold a great range of dishes very much like cook at home, but classier

Well my family likes to eat out around 7:00. I live i Florida so it might be different where you live. 7:00pm here isnt dark so u can still see out and/ or sunset. I like to eat at ruby tuesdays because of there great food and huge plate servings. Tasty, wonderful, flavor servings! I like to eat at most places where they serve great food. :)
