what offense qualifies suspension without pay?
A male, non-exempt co-worker of mine just got suspended without pay. It's being kept quiet for now. What sorts of behavior would have warranted this?

Anything the company decides is reason.
Stealing, violence, misuse of resources/property, harassment, etc

No one here has ESP. Each company sets their own disciplinary policies.
1) Consult the company handbook; or
2) Ask your friend why he was suspended.

A grave misconduct that warrant his/her suspension without pay. One of the gravest offense on my mind is malversation of funds in the company. That is a very serious offense. Corruption inside the company.

Unless there is a contract or collective bargaining agreement, they could do this for any offense.

being suspended with or without pay is a matter of policy or contract NOT of law...
it does NOT matter what sex, what job, or how they are paid.
