how do i make my puppy eat his food?
i have a GSD puppy, he is 55 days old and I feed him royal canine as thats the best available dog food in India. i soak it in water and give it when its soft. he was eating it very enthusiastically but lately not been eating. the vet says there is nothing wrong with him after a thorough check up, they said he is just bored of his food. as his stools are normal and he not throwing up and is very active. and the breeder also said the same and they suggested i change his food for a couple of days so i begin giving him Hills.. he ate that for day and is bored of it also.. so begin giving him royal canine without soaking it in water, just hard and crunchy, he ate that for a day and got bored again. im out of options.. he is such a difficult lil fellow.. how do i make him want food and eat what ever is given to him that is healthy. BTW i feed him 4 times a day. he is de wormed and vaccinated of parvo and distemper.

What I did with my puppy when I soaked the puppy food is mixed a little canned puppy food for a little extra flavor and it worked for him.

I would suggest try different food but be careful what you give ihm because many of this industrial dog food are really bad. Try some fish or a mix of vegetables with oats. You have to be very pacient with baby dogs because they are still very young and need a lot of attention. With time things will get better

No it is not good for him cats/kittens need a lot more protein and other minerals and vitamins than dogs do. Try mixing the kitten food and the puppy food, it could be he just likes the dish the dog is using, cats are fussy critters, it is part of what makes them so irresistible! Or you could try putting the puppy food in the kitty bowl and visa versa so you can se if it's the dish or the food.

My dog is very picky also. I just sprinkle liver sprinkles over her food to always keep her interested. Her favourite treats are dried liver

● "How do i make my puppy eat his food?"
You can't.
A healthy pup eats when it is hungry.
An unhealthy pup doesn't feel like eating, and so needs a vet to feed it through an IV tube until Pup is healthy.
● "I feed him royal canine as thats the best available dog food in India."
RUBBISH! I have no interest in whether it is the best KIBBLE in India, but the BEST DIET for pups is based on such as raw chicken, raw fish, raw goat and raw other meats, plus the powdered foods used for human babies and mixed with milk. Once again I direct you to the Diet_Sheet in http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/The_GSD_Source/...
Read. LEARN!
● "im out of options.."
No you're not - you're just being a wilful pupil who refuses to take experienced advice.
I don't advise feeding him on ONLY cat-food, but Jellimeat is sure to be available, along with plenty of shredded fish in cans, and various "stews" canned for dogs, and baby-foods & vitamin+mineral powders for humans. Yes, they are expensive over a year, but if you can't afford to feed a dog properly you shouldn't HAVE a dog yet.
● "he is such a difficult lil fellow.. how do i make him want food and eat what ever is given to him that is healthy."
BOY are YOU in for a shock when you have a toddler to feed!
You need to learn to provide what the child or pup LIKES, and at the same time you have to make sure that the ingredients are what that eater's body & brain needs.
● " BTW i feed him 4 times a day. he is de wormed and vaccinated of parvo and distemper.
· A pooch can't be vaccinated "of parvo" etc - it gets vaccinated AGAINST them. And until the active immune system is mature enough to learn-&-remember how to destroy each virus it finds, you can't rely on the vaccine having worked. (Last time I looked, immunologists were claiming that a booster was needed after 6 months old - but I know that my 300+ GSD pups needed no vaccinations after the boosters given at 16 weeks old. Once AGAIN: Click http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/The_GSD_Source/... and study about the vaccination protocol.
· And a pooch is not PERMANENTLY de-wormed. You have to keep de-worming just before eggs that were present - and invulnerable to the vermicide - when you gave the dose have had time to mature and start laying more eggs. And you have to keep doling that until, twice in a row, there are no signs of worms or eggs in the faeces during the next 48 hours.
