360 / 9 = 40
therefore, 40 degrees is the exterior angle of a nonagon.

thank you all for your answers. revising for my maths exam tomorrow, and the my maths website said that 40 was wrong?????

If you can't remember the 360/n formula (it's obviously simple, but not used as much as the formula for the interior angles), then you can use the more common interior angle formula to get the answer.
The interior angles of an n-gon add up to 180(n-2). So for a nonagon, that's 180x7. Divide that by 9 and you get 20x7 = 140. So the exterior angle is 180-140 = 40.

Sum of all exterior angles is always 360. 360/9= 40 (as there are nine angles)

Assuming it is a regular nonagon, then yes, that would make sense.
The exterior angles in a polygon always add up to 360°. So if you have a nonagon (9 sides), each exterior angle would be:
360° / 9 = 40°
