Is he disrespectful or is it my family?

My parents hate my boyfriend cause he's got kids. They think it's inevitable he's going to ruin my life, and they have never even spoken to him other than the one time they met and they spent 15 minutes calling him a b*****d and telling him he's a piece of sh*t. When my dad said "come here and talk to me" my boyfriend was walking up to him and I stood infront of him so he stopped.

My brother once sent me a message saying that I disgust him and I'm not his sister etc. all because I'm dating someone that my family hates and when I cried, my boyfriend sent him a message on Facebook, calling him gutless and weak.

So my family seems to think he doesn't know the meaning of respect, I personally think it's them, not him.

I want to know what others think about this cause I'm thinking of talking to my boyfriend about it and asking him to be more respectful...but at the same time I feel that he did nothing wrong compared to my family

Hon, it sounds like your parents might not have given your boyfriend much of a chance to prove himself to be an honorable man to date. Despite your age, their opinion still counts and you would be wise to consider their concerns, even if you disagree.

Maybe your boyfriend thought he was defending you by calling your brother names on Facebook, but he certainly hasn't taken the higher road or shown much maturity there. Even if he didn't have kids, he isn't going to have your parent's blessing if he's rude to a family member, even privately. Watch for other signs of anger or disrespect to see if there's a pattern.

You're in a difficult spot, having to defend two sets of people who care about you. Probably the best thing to do is just take it slow, and use your head and your heart.

Just because someone has kids doesn't mean they're undatable, people split for soooooooo many reasons and who are they (your family) to judge when they don't know why he has kids or what happened to the mother, Not everyone comes from the same walk of life, some people make mistakes, some are widowed, some fall-in love and then are left with the kids out of nowhere . . . all that matters is that he treats his kids right. Your family shouldn't be so bias & prejudice, I'd be embarrassed of having such a closed minded family.

I believe it depends on how old he is or you are. I believe you should talk to your parents and explain why you love him and to give him a chance. If he hasn't been able to say anything to them how can he be disrespectful? So talk to your parents.
