Should morbidly obese people be able to get disability based on their fatness?

Hi there. So you want my honest answer? NO, NO, NO!!!! But why do I say that? Simple answer, is that not self inflicted? Who forced the food down their mouths? Let me explain . . . .

We all have different amounts of food needed, no matter what age, sex or weight HOWEVER most of us know when to stop eating, simply due to our stomach being stretch out to the max. I am type one diabetic ( since age of 10 and now 45 ), and so not only did I need to watch what type of food but also the amount. These are exactly the same factors that any "Fred Bloggs" needs to watch. Obese people just eat too much one day, and then the next, and then the next - ignoring all the signs that nature gives to them, such as "feeling full".

If a person is born with some genetic problem, which developes later in life, then have they created it themselves? What about cancer? I do not mean lung cancer though, as more often than not that is caused by smoking. How many females choose to have their breasts removed due to a medical problem? I am SURE that the answer is zero!

I am also sure that if all of the people getting disability, due to their obesity, were to be asked if they felt they should get it then they all would say "yes". If a parent was to be on the stairs and trip over a toy half way down, which then resulted in a broken limb then would they get the same benefit? Is that not also just a self inflicted disability, even though not permanent, but what about wages lost?

This subject REALLY frustrates me, due to my medical conditions/history, none of which I asked for by self inflicting the cause - alcohol, drugs or too much food.

ps I am also epileptic due to which I've experienced having been DEAD twice, already had one brain operation and another one on the way.

Being overweight is not an illness as it is self inflicted and could be classed as a condition which you cannot get benefits for. If you could there would be very few people in the world that were not claiming benefits for being overweight.?

Yes but they should have to walk 20 miles each week to sign up.

It would depend on their overall medical status. I don't think they should get it for their excessive weight alone.

I would be more apt to agree with it if there are other medical conditions involved that either caused that

magnitude of weight gain or make losing the weight on their own exceedingly difficult.

They should have some sort of a results-based program to help them get healthy, more independent, and getting them back out into the world and being contributing members of society.

The richest 400 individual taxpayers, with an average income of more than $200 million, pay less than 20 percent of their income in taxes — far lower than mere millionaires, who pay about 25 percent of their income in taxes, and about the same as those earning a mere $200,000 to $500,000. And in 2009, 116 of the top 400 earners — almost a third — paid less than 15 percent of their income in taxes.

There are a host of other problems that can cause disability if someone is morbidly obese. Whether or, not they will receive benefits depends on a number of factors. Certainly obesity could be one of those factors.

It's kind of like the rich getting tax breaks for being rich, huh? Other than the fact that the morbidly obese are actually disabled, whether by their own doing or not really doesn't matter.

I think virtually all disability claims are bogus. The whole concept of being unable to do any kind of work is never going to be true. There are people paralyzed from the neck down who are making a contribution to society writing software, for example.

Addicts get it constantly. Morbidly obese people certainly should.
