NDEs—to people who don't believe consciousness separates from the body at death—what are all the theories?

what are all the theories that lead you to believe that consciousness does not separate from the body at death, that the Near Death Experience is merely caused by a brain function of some kind, and, even better, where did you get your ideas from? How credible are these sources do you think?

Neurologists understand NDEs pretty well. They're hallucinations that are the result of lack of oxygen to the brain (the sensation of a light at the end of a tunnel comes from that lack of oxygen) and the DMT that is released when the brain is in major trouble.

If people were really going somewhere they'd all see pretty much the same thing. They don't.

Better yet, why are they getting second chances from Jesus? Jesus said it's too late once you die, so them so people who talk about an afterlife after death are contradicting what Jesus said.

Hello wendalore, the pity with all explanations given by our loving friends is that they simply ignore the major parts of the brain cells not been used so far. Unless or otherwise we make necessary provisions to make use of most parts of the brain through yogic practice and meditation it will be a never ending argument related to NDE.

Just reading these answers makes me wonder about OBE's. They are very similar to NDE's, except you can go anywhere, not ordinarily through a tunnel. Oh yes in every generation science knew it all, they still do! The problem is that science looks at things from the inside out, from our senses. For many answers, one must look from outside in. Saying that all people would see the same thing doesn't make sense to me. If you zoomed to earth no one would see the same thing unless they landed in the same place. And it is not taking into account how we create reality with our thoughts.

Let's start with a lesson in logic:

You're approaching things backwards. You seem to have "believed" that "NDEs" ARE a "separation of consciousness from the body at death," and then are demanding that other people provide "theories" to prove that notion wrong. What you should do, if you're honest, is start from the position of honest ignorance: some phenomenon is described (NDEs), I don't know what it is or what causes it; so, what does evidence show causes it and what it is?

Evidence (and there's a lot of it) shows that all such "experiences" are the result of chemical reactions in a brain being starved of oxygen and/or nutrients. That when a brain is being starved of oxygen and/or nutrients, the body's systems release chemicals in a desperate attempt to keep brain tissue alive, and these chemicals instigate rapid firing of neurons, similar to REM dream states. That our brains, which are so good at weaving "stories" that sort of make sense out of random/incomplete data, sometime weave this random firing into a sort of narrative story -- one that always reflects the pre-existing beliefs and cultural norms of the person involved, and are NOT the same person to person or culture to culture.

And finally, evidence shows the "experience" can be duplicated by chemical injections of the chemicals our bodies release naturally in low oxygen/nutrient situations.

Is there any evidence that they DO represent "consciousness separating from the body?"

No, there isn't. In fact, there's no evidence that "consciousness" CAN "separate from the body," since all the evidence we have about consciousness shows that it's produced by a working physical brain.

So, there you go. All the evidence we have shows the "experiences" to be natural, repeatable with chemical injections, culturally-based, and entirely brain-based. NO evidence shows them to be what you claim they are.

Surely you can reach the correct conclusion from the evidence, can't you? Or are you going to continue to irrationally "believe" they're supernatural/magic, despite NO evidence supporting that claim and massive evidence showing the claim false? If so, that's the very definition of delusion.

I don't need a theory. Until you prove it is any more than a handful of crackpots jumping on a bandwagon of lies I can happily carry on not believing anything they say.

There is no theory to explain how consciousness can exist without the brain.

There is no need for a theory that leads you to believe that consciousness does not separate from the body at death because there is no reason to believe it does.

It's what i don't like about Jehovas witnesses, they say we're biological machines in one breathe and then mention satan is jealous of us. So an ex angel (am i an ex human if i commit a crime?) is jealous of machines giving worship to its father?

Sounds a bit odd to me?

All of the science is where I get my information. Considering how well the scientific method has worked thus far I find it very credible.
