Which foods or animals are not legally allowed to be genetically modified?

I'm doing an assignment on genetic modification, and I was wondering if there is any food or animal that is not allowed to be genetically modified as a result of any laws, restrictions or regulations, and perhaps if there is anyway to argue whether or not they should be allowed to be modified.

We are all genetically modified by the process of aprocriation, mixing the 'stuff of life' from from 2 life forms will produce a modified version of the originals. Please re phrase the question using the term 'artificial'

Humans are not allowed to be genetically engineered.

As far as animals or plants, there are no blanket bans on any species, but new varieties must go through an approval process.

    Humans.

Anything that's illegal to experiment on in general, i.e. endangered animals.
