Ignore what he's said. He has no right to make such comments.

As for shaving your legs, you don't necessarily need to. You actually don't need to remove the body hair if you don't want to because it's not a necessary requirement, as long as you don't mind some raised eyebrows. However, bear in mind if you don't, it can be harder to keep the area clean.

There are also other methods of hair removal as well as shaving available. These include:-

    - depilatory. This comes as a mousse or cream which is applied to the skin. It chemically damages the root of the hair so as you wash the depilatory off, the hair comes with it too. It lasts a bit longer than shaving, is cheap, easy to do, can be done in the privacy of your own home, it provides an exfoliation, can slow hair growth and it's painless. However, it can be messy, smelly, may irritate sensitive skin and uneven application can result in uneven hair removal.

    - waxing. This is when you apply hot or cold wax to your legs, press down and then quickly pull it off, the same way you would to remove an old first-aid plaster. It pulls the hair out by the root so it lasts for a long time, it doesn't cause nicks of cuts that can lead to scarring, it can eventually help the hair grow back thinner. The main downside to it is that you have to wait until the hair is a couple of millimeters long before doing it again, otherwise the wax doesn't have enough to grab to. It can also be painful, although it gets less painful over time because the hairs become less well rooted.

    - sugaring. This is similar to waxing, but uses a sugar solution, hence the name rather than wax. This doesn't pull at the skin so doesn't cause irritation. It's also natural and easy to clean up. However, again it's painful to do and the hair needs to be longer for it to work properly.

    - laser. This is when hair is removed at a professional beauty salon via laser. It's painless, can be used on different areas of the body including sensitive ones like your upper lip and in certain cases, can be permanent. However, the treatments don't come cheaply and they can be time consuming. It can also cause the skin to become uneven in color as a side effect

    - electrolysis. This is when a device (a tool which is usually needle-like) is put into the skin and a small current is passed through. The hair absorbs the energy from this current, which travels to the hair growth cells, causing them to die. The main advantage to this is that it's usually permanent, it's versatile and is approved by the FDA. However, again it's expensive and time consuming, can discolor the skin and it's painful.

Having a chat with someone you trust about which method is appropriate for you can be helpful, like your mum or (if you have one) an older sister, older female cousin or aunt.

    Hope this helps.

Smack that boy in the face! Truth is everyone is going to find something to judge you on, but you can't let that get to you. You don't have to ever shave if you don't want to! Honestly I wouldn't even worry about it. I bet you're beautiful just the way you are!

Tell him to f*ck off and find a guy like me who loves hairy legs, and armpits as well on girls. Guys like me do exist, honestly.
