Should a young adult have to ask her father for college help?
Parents are divorced. Father retired the year she was going to college. He is able to help as far as she knows. Mom has trouble paying it all but has managed to help so far the first year. Is it the adult's job to ask dad for help? She is also looking for work to help pay cost. He has not mentioned any kind of help.

PERHAPS THE COLLEGE AGED CHILD SHOULD ASK THE DAD, KNOWING THAT DAD BEING ON A RETIRED INCOME, MAY BE LIMITED, BUT TO LET HIM KNOW THAT HAIVNG ALL OF THE FINANCIAL RESPONSIBLITY ON THE MOTHER IS TOO TAXING ON HER, BUT SPEAKING OF TAXES, DOES HE GET ANY OF THE WRITE OFF FOR THE DAUGHTER, OR IS IT MOM ONLY? WHAT ABOUT APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID,SCHOLARSHIPS, GETTING A PT JOB YOURSELF?

No. If he was going to help he likely already would have.
As a young adult she should learn that she needs to support herself, and this includes school. I know it isn't easy but millions of people have put their self though college with little to no financial assistance.
I put myself through college, my parents couldn't afford to help me and they would have if they could have, most parents will help their kids if they can without being asked or begged. I also never qualified for some reason for any grants so I paid it myself. It took a little longer because I also worked, but I have a masters degree with $0.00 in student loans. I was fortunate enough along the way though that I had employers who helped with college tuition but even then I still paid a lot.
My kids because I know how hard it is to pay for school, I have saved for their education all of their life and went without myself to make it easier on them and even with that the rising education costs it still may not be enough.
She shouldn't just assume her dad has the money, his money is his business not hers.
