Does any one know why the overdubbed Jack Elam's voice, and no one else's in, Once Upon A Time In The West? Did he have a sore throat that day?

They did?? My favorite western, and I didn't notice this. Guess I'll have to pay more attention the next time I watch. Poor olde Jack E, didn't last too long anyway - 30 min (into the movie)??
