Have you gotten a free tattoo from a tattoo apprentice?

I found this girl on Instagram who (surprisingly) is in my area...she posted a lot of her work on her Instagram page and it looks REALLY good but I'm just worried about it getting infected or something like that (that saying good tattoos aren't cheap, cheap tattoos aren't good) because the tattoo I'd have her do is a "in memory of" tattoo AND in a visible spot so I really don't want it to be screwed up...would you trust her? She's doing tattoos for free to get experience on skin

I haven't, personally - but I do know that the apprentice at my local tattoo studio is very talented, and her standard of work is very high. If I wanted a tattoo in her particular style, I would certainly go to her.

It really depends on the apprentice and where they're based. An apprentice in a well-respected studio, working with good artists, with a good portfolio of work, supervised by an experienced artist, can be a good choice. Someone who offers to tattoo you at home after they've spent a few weeks cleaning up and practising on pig-skin in some crappy back street tattoo parlour is not.

Some apprentices are just as good as working artists. It's your call, make a judgment based on her work

It is totally up to you, personally if it was me for an in memory tattoo id go to a professional if its big, maybe if you want to try the apprentice get something small to see if she is any good and not just some scratcher with good art!

Personally i would go with someone you trust, harsh i know considering everyone has to start out somewhere. Thats my opinion though.
