good place to start studying medieval history?

So, as of late I have found an interest in medieval history. Particularly English, and Scottish history. The only problem is, is that I don't know any credible books on the subject. If you happen to know any, please let me know about it. Thanks.

Update:

By the way, I don't know if this is the correct category to place this question. I assumed it was, but I could be wrong. Forgive me if it belongs somewhere else.

Medieval History covers from 476 to 1492,so over a 1000 years.

    Try

'In Search of the Dark Ages' - M. Wood

'The Oxford Illustrated History of Medieval England' - N. Saul

    'Medieval Scotland' - A. MacQuarrie

    to start with.
