Why are the people debating the most contested issue in the world (isreal and palestine) more reasonable and polite?

Than the people debating politics in America. I came here expecting anger and venom and hate like never seen anywhere on yahoo, and i find a whole buch of people from both sides of the issue i would like to have lunch with. where as in the american politics section i wouldn't give most of them the time of day, and they are supposedly working towars the same goal, the betterment of their country.

I doubt most of the people you see on this forum are from Israel / Palestinian territories themselves. I'm sure they have more important priorities this week, So that may be a part of it... most of those commenting are on the outside looking in, and the outside is full of green grass and park benches. While, the American issues have a range of us bitter Americans bickering from our high horses.

I don't know. Maybe the Israel / Palestine issue has been analyzed roughly on the same main issues for quite a while, and therein lies the calm debates?

I've definitely seen some venom and hate the last week... but overall, it's hard to say that you can't empathize with the plight of the 'other' side. It's all a problem of perspective. I personally find it much easier to empathize with the two sides of that issue, versus the other side of many American issues that I feel are just deeply unjust. Perhaps I'm too close to it?

Venom and Hate suck, we should all have lunch!

Because They're generally aware of the absurdity of the underlying issue : the dire - as well as realized - impossibility of a

2-state 'solution' being enforced in that mutually sensitive region. The people - of Israel and of Palestine - are mostly very good people. The specific region itself, by mutual consent of the peoples, needs to be re-named - possibly as something like "Palesrael" or "Sraelestine" - and its constituents encouraged to accept a progressive healthy current secular modernity to modify the obvious illusionary antiquity expressed by 'stories' of the like how "Some-one, Commanded the very moon to Stand Still and the moon Obeyed"

Terrorism, as has been well-established all along, has been shamefully practiced by those that wield power on both sides and has resulted in nothing but causing hate and revenge to descend to the fore front as passions have tended to subside ! The peoples - of the region and of the world - should realize that the process being followed at present is one that inevitably leads to failure, and should speak out against it with the necessary uprightness
