    Genesis 9:6 NKJV

    (6) "Whoever sheds man's blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man.

It was God speaking to Noah and his family.

    Later God said –

    Exodus 20:13 NKJV

    (13) "You shall not murder.

    Numbers 35:33 NKJV

    (33) So you shall not pollute the land where you are; for blood defiles the land, and no atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it.

Provision was made for causing accidental death –

    Numbers 35:10-12 NKJV

    (10) "Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: 'When you cross the Jordan into the land of Canaan,

    (11) then you shall appoint cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the manslayer who kills any person accidentally may flee there.

    (12) They shall be cities of refuge for you from the avenger, that the manslayer may not die until he stands before the congregation in judgment.

Since then mankind have come so far from the principles set out by God that we have to have professional men and women to determine whether the truth is being told and all shades of meaning taken into account.

God declares that to intentionally kill another person is wrong and the punishment for doing this is the loss of your own life.

God is here, establishing the law against murder of another human. He is giving the only humans alive, the power to enforce His laws.

Every society and culture in history has had laws. However not all of those laws were given by God or approved by Him. He gave the laws He approved to the nation He personally established as an example to those of us who would come at the time of the end. (Now)

One of them was, indeed, against taking the life of another person.

Today, this law no longer applies to individual people, since we have law enforcement agencies to carry out such penalties.

But rest assured if the earthly law misses carrying out such penalties, God will Himself, see that they are carried out at Armageddon.

For example, God instructed the Israelites to execute anyone found practicing witchcraft, because this is a tool that Satan uses to trap the gullible. No modern country carries out this penalty but again, rest assured that all those practicing witchcraft will die at Armageddon.

Good thing gods are imaginary, and the bible is not regarded as law by any rational person.

All sorts of things are OK with the god of the Old Testament - murder, rape, genocide, torture, capital punishment etc. You only have to read the Bible to discover what a thoroughly nasty being this god was. There are much nicer gods around. I would give no credibility to anything this god calls on anyone to do, we no longer need barbarian deities, we are civilised these days. Or some of us are anyway...
