How can I avoid depression?

My mom has suffered from depression for a long time, and so have both of my older brothers. My mom started to talk to me about what it feels like to be depressed, how it's not "all of a sudden" you just seem to feel sadder and sadder, digging yourself deeper and deeper into a hole and you any get out, she said it's not one event that triggers depression. She said that if I start to feel really sad for a long period of time to talk to her and we can get me help. I've started to feel sad for a while now, I haven't wanted to get up, I've gotten annoyed at the tiniest things, all the stuff I used to love to do I have no interest in any more. I can't tell if it's just hormones or if I'm getting depressed! I don't want depression, my mom says I don't have a choice, but I want to stay the happy, bubbly girl I've been my whole life! Please help!

    Suggestion...

This is something you can do to regain your happy emotional tone. It's like an "exercise". Start gradually and make yourself do this every day before you start your day and during the day as needed. It will get easier but may be a bit hard to do at first as you will have to push through those negative thoughts or emotions that will try to get in your way or stop you while doing this "exercise". Treat it as a challenge !

FIND SOMETHING ABOUT YOURSELF OR YOUR BODY THAT YOU LIKE.

Any small thing . (e.g.shape of your thumb nail, sound of your voice, etc )

Then FIND SOMETHING ELSE ABOUT YOURSELF OR YOUR BODY THAT YOU LIKE.

Find or locate things in present time only.

Do this procedure for a few minutes or longer until you feel a bit better about yourself.

Repeat as needed as many times as you want. :o)

Also do this same procedure with other people and objects in your immediate environment. Parents, brothers, friends, personal possessions etc.

Find something about _____ that you like.

Find something else about ______ that you like.

Until you feel a bit better about other people or generally.

Once you get yourself back up scale you can also help your mom with this by doing it to her.

Wait for her to answer with something, then acknowledge her answer, whatever it is, and repeat the step until she brightens up a little bit .

You can do this as much and as many times as you need.

It is an unlimited procedure. :o)

Exercise regularly, eat healthy(these are pretty important and can help depression). Don't stress too much and try meditation. Make sure you keep a journal and write every day, even if it's just a sentence.
