Do School Buses Make Children Fat?

It is often said that children are not safe if they don't ride in a bus but there are many examples of how dangerous unionized school buses are for children as well.

Are most school bus programs just another example of government employee unions protecting their gravy trains. Is it school buses that are making children fat?

What do you think?

If you don't want your child to ride the bus, don't let them. Bus services have nothing to do with government employee "gravy trains." It is a service that each school district offers to children who live a certain distance away, and may not have other options for travel. In some areas, there are no sidewalks, or children may be required to cross dangerous roadways.

No one is forced to have their kids ride the bus, you are more than welcome to drive or walk them yourself.

That incident was when the driver had a seizure while driving, if he had a history of seizures, he wouldn't have had a license. What it is is a terrible accident, with a hero kid, and no serious injuries.

Crossing busy roads (I would have had to cross a 6 lane major road with no median to walk to my JR high), areas with no sidewalks so kids have to walk in the street, kids walking by themselves, can make walking to school dangerous. If you live in a good area, with low traffic, sidewalks, and they can walk either with you or another adult, or in a larger group of responisble kids, walking is a great idea! But not everyone is so lucky.

I think, especially in the winter, busses are a hell of a lot safer then walking. Driving them everyday won't address any issues either. We pay to ride the bus.

    I think that's ridiculous.
