Air Force pilot question?
I'm looking at options in the US Military. Pilot is one of them. I'm in Civil Air Patrol and have the opertunity to become a pilot there because of trainings. There are 2 major problems though. #1 I have terrible vision #2 I don't know if I'm smart enough. I have taken tons of aerospace classes and it is hard to understand for me. Also I don't want to be a pilot in a war like one we are fighting now. No opposition, just bombing targets. I obsessed with air warfare during WW2. My great grandfather was in the 8th Air Force during WW2, and he is one of my inspirations. I just don't think there will ever be dog fights again, or bombing missions like there was in WW2. Even if we went to war with say China or Russia, I heard a fighter can hit a target from almost a mile away. What do you think? Could I still become a pilot? Does the Air Force offer lazer eye surgery? What will air warfare be like in the future -your opinions-

If you don't want to do actual missions.... then don't bother. Forget the college part, forget the eye issues. If you are not willing to fly a combat mission if and when needed... you are USELESS!
You need to look at modern history to just see how our pilots are used. Early 90s... Desert Storm. Late 90s... Operation Allied Force. All during the 90s... Operation Northern Watch and Southern Watch. Next decade... Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, which are still going on. Korean deterrence since 2004. The men and women who flew in support of these operations shot down other aircraft, dropped bombs, acted in an aggressive manner with the intent to fight if needed.
Ok, so you'll fly cargo or refuelers. Guess what... you are part of the war machine! What do you think your cargo is? Who are you refueling? Your mission is to support the combat mission, which supports the AF mission, which is to "Fly, Fight, Win!"
Now... your issues....
College degree, STEM major, 3.5 gpa minimum, 4 years of AF ROTC OR Air Force Academy. Your time in the CAP is meaningless, as is private pilot training. If you don't get the aerospace classes... you'll never make it.
Vision problems.... DQ. 20/70, correctable to 20/20 is the WORST your vision can be.
