I like diced tomatoes in my chili. But not in sloppy joes. Little difficult to compare the two, as there are so many different recipes for chili. You could have a chili that's just meat and sauce, which would just be seasoned differently than a sloppy joe mix.

Sloppy Joes made with Manwich are to die for either in the barbeque flavor sauce or the original. Paired with those canned baked beans, even better. I can't think of the brand name but it has the dog Duke on the commercial. I keep buying canned chili forgetting how I really don't like the taste. CRS. It happens as you age. I always mean to make chili dogs out of it. But then end up eating the hot dogs in the bun along with chips & skipping the chili since it tastes too strong.

Plus chili is very very thick if canned like Wolf Brand Chili. Homemade Chili or the kind from Wendy's is not so thick but thin & how would you eat it on a bun. It would make the bun sopping wet & nothing would get in your mouth. You would have to eat the bun with a utensil.

While Sloppy Joes are meant for the sandwich or burger buns & work well. I recommend the bold & spicy beans for with it or any other flavor of canned beans & then chips. Great summer dinner. Maybe even cole slaw with it or fruit.

There are probably over a thousand Chili recipes. Original Texas Chili contains no beans and was primarily diced steak and spices. Seems like every State and Province has it's own version of Chili and they all taste great. Look on-line or in Your local Bookstore for books and recipes. As for Sloppy Joe's ? I like them when I go camping but it's not Chili.

Essentially, they are the same except that chili is eaten with a fork and sloppy Joes with bread.

The sauces are very different. Chili is seasoned with died seasonings including dried chili's, cumin, paprika. Sloppy Joe sauce is more like cheap bbq sauce. Sloppy Joe is like ketchup mixed with a little bbq sauce.
