Is there any way I can convince my parents to quit smoking?

For as long as I have been alive and much longer than that, my parents have smoked. I guess it was a popular thing when they were teenagers?

I've always known them to smoke, and I always tried to tolerate it, because I was a kid and they didn't care what I said. Even when I developed bronchitis and had to use my inhaler every time they smoked, they didn't care. They would promise on birthdays that they would quit, but they never did. Our walls have always been discolored, and everything always smells of nicotine and smoke. It's disgusting.

The longest my dad went without smoking was three months, before I was born. I don't know why he picked it up again. My mother's record is a week.

So, please, I really want help with this. I don't want to get some kind of bad illness from their smoke, and I don't want them to get ill. Plus.. the extra $90+ we'd gain each week would really help.

Serious answers only, please.

There is a trend to go towards e-cigarettes. You can get small cigar sized ones that you refill with liquid. The American liquid you can get with nicotine too. It's a good way to wean off regular cigarettes, it doesn't make the house stink, and the running cost is a fraction of smoking cost. After buying the initial e-cig units the running cost would only be about $10 or $15 a week at the most.

They can start with nicotine "smoke juice" and gradually progress to non-nicotine smoke juice.

Eventually after about 12 to 18 months of using non-nicotine smoke juice they should no longer have a craving.

They don't need the smoke, but they crave the nicotine in the tobacco. They could try nicotine alternatives like patches, gum, etc. Try to convince them that they're hurting you with second hand smoke and buy them these alternative for them to try.

If they really wanted to quit they would have done so when they found out about you...

I know how you feel my parents use to smoke my mom quit but my dad kept smoking eventually they got a divorce because of it my dad had spent over 45,000 on cigz during there whole marrige , i have developed chronic asthma and he still smokes...if i where you i would really try to convince them to start using the ecigs and if that dosent work maybe show them those nastey smoking awarness commercials, you could buy them patches and sit them down and tell them this is it you need to stop try telling them how much they mean to you and you cant bare to watch them destroy there bodies anymore and tell them that you want them to live to meet your grandkids and you want them to live and grow old healthy and without a machine to help them breath.
