Can someone please, explain why Al Sharpton seems to have so much clout with some people?

Update:

I'm sure this isn't the only question to bring the loud man in the Darth Vader haircut up. But, for the life of me I cannot understand why, in lieu of Tawana Brawley, Trayvon Martin (had the prosecutor not been pressured into a murder prosecution by he and his crowd, Zimmerman may have actually been prosecuted for the more appropriate crime of manslaughter, giving justice to a jerk with a gun instead of nothing) and now, the mess in Ferguson. The case doesn't seem to be as the two initial witnes

Update 2:

sses stated with Brown having, apparently, been the primary aggressor. Yet, despite the facts of that coming to light, he's still there riling the uninformed up and is even giving the eulogy at the man's funeral. I just don't get it. His organization isn't a church, nor is he affiliated with any after having been defrocked from one years ago. Yet, he's called a Reverend. He owes over $4million in back taxes.

Update 3:

Despite being a public figure whose whereabouts are always known and has somehow earned an income justifying that tax figure while working for a supposed non-profit that doesn't seem to actually give to anyone. Most schools in black dominated areas are woefully underperforming, black on black crime is horrifically high and black unemployment is hovering in the teens percentage wise.

Update 4:

Yet, all he ever does is point the finger around the room blaming everyone for a symptom rather than addressing the disease.

What gives? I'm sorry if this may offend. But, I'm just flabbergasted by this man.

Update 5:

(sorry for the choppy updates, Yahoo! seems to be a bit fickle per its layout lately)

Isn't it ironic that most of the people who asked and answered this question are A. White, and B. probably get their information from Fox Entertainment.

Thought i'd give you some real facts:

1/ The Rev. Al Sharpton is still and has been an ordained Baptist Minister for more than 25yrs.....

2/ He sorted out his tax issues 4yrs ago, and has kept his agreement with the government and is current with all those issues.

3/ The National Action Network is a legal Civil Rights Organization, that works with The NAACP, The National Woman's Group, and other Civil Rights Organizations that have sprung up since Trayvon Martin thru the recent group that is protesting the shooting of a Mentally disturbed Mexican and a Black Homeless man.

4/ And he is out there because he does speak for most Black Folks, and I'd like to hear the conversations of the black folks you know when they are not in your presence.

5/ Lastly the reason Real News people follow Al Sharpton, because they know he has the ear of the people, so you see, we most of us think and feel like Al Sharpton, but many of us aren't in a position to speak our minds. (Perhaps like the Black Folk you know) Ms. Charlie - aptly named I might add.

BTW - The reason why he will be one of the Key note speakers at the Pettus Bridge in Selma is because men like my friends Congressman John Lewis, Former Ambassador Andrew Young, and the other esteemed dignitaries who will be on the dais this weekend consider him to be one of the most important civil rights leaders of the present time.

These are facts, and the reasons he has a 3 hour national radio show every day, and why he has a television News show every day - He is real and he is relevant.

    Good question.

He really doesn't speak for the common black people

I think he searches out publicity.

I think he is a jerk personally.

Most of the black people I know, are intelligent and nothing like him.
