Are downloads from Bleeping Computer safe?
A few weeks ago i downloaded Adwcleaner from Bleeping Computer and since then i have been paraniod about viruses. Also what are the chances that i may have inadvertently downloaded a keylogger (either legitimate or commercial) with the Adwcleaner file from Bleeping computer?
How can i tell if i downloaded a keylogger?
Can commercial keyloggers be bundled with files from file sharing sites?
I never actually ran Adwcleaner, I chickened out and deleted the file immeadiately after i ran it through virustotal ( all but 3 said it was clean but i deleted it just to be safe).

I think you can be 99 percent sure that anything you download from bleepingcomputer is safe.
I knew the owner of bleeping (calls himself grinler) since the site's inception... he used to frequent and help out at a security site with me.. helping people get rid of malware... this 12-13 years ago
no place is COMPLETELY safe as it's possible a 0day flaw could allow for malware to be put in
there are places you can upload a file to.. to have multiple scan engines check it. here are the two most well known https://www.virustotal.com/ and http://virusscan.jotti.org/
and yes.. it is possible to bundle keyloggers and other malware with files from filesharing sites.
as for how prevelent that happens.. I couldn't say.. I would expect that the moderators, owners and even users will warn others if something is found.
edit: i saw your update. I'm not surprised to see false postives.. signature based detection has it's flaws... a lot of it due to the type of packers that are used in making the software. certain packers are commonly used by some malware makers and it's similarity to what was used in Adwcleaner probably set it off... on another note.. check out that JRT program there at bleeping.. " junkware removal tool".. I think it's pretty awesome

BLEEPING COMPUTER AND APP SITES are infamous for giving out malware. The people who answered this and maybe even who asked it are probably part of a marketing tactic to make people think its safe while bringing attention to the website.
I dont trust anything that stockpiles apps because #1 you have to spend soo much time and effort and money to constantly monitor the site, and you have to spend time money energy scanning every file you put on. AND they will always be the best source of targets for people wanting to spread malware to innocent computers

You should always download software from the "Home web site" when possible. I've used the Bleeping Computer link before with no problems. Adwcleaner is a very good software by the way. I've used it for quite sometime now.

Blleping computer is the most safest, well known site for malware removal. You are 100% safe downloading from their. However I ran adwcleaner recently, and it damaged my chrome browser
UPDATE Trust me on this, bleeping computer AND adwcleaner are perfectly safe. You have nothing to worry about
