Hair Loss, DHT, and estrogen question?

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone that understand DHT and hair loss can answer this question.

As men grow older, their testosterone decreases and estrogen rises. Testosterone and DHT are the main cause of hair loss, so I'm wondering what the explanation for men losing their hair as they grow old, even though their estrogen level is rising, and T levels diminishing. I heard that estrogen encourages DHT to bind to the hair follicles, but I'm unsure how true that is.

I'd really appreciate an explanation of this, as there is so much contradicting info out there, thanks!

Hair loss in men is widely considered the social norm, but when women begin to lose their hair it can be devastating and frightening. For many women, the loss of hair can be extremely damaging to their self-image andcountless women rightfully seek treatment to correct their disease. In the past, hair loss has been thought to be a degenerative disease seen only in men, but as of late the trend is changing. With the numbers rising and over two thirds of American women suffering from female pattern baldness, remedies have become widely available and the options for treatment are plentiful.
